Tommie Johnson

Tommie Johnson is entering his eighth season as an assistant coach on the CSU-Pueblo men's basketball staff.

In Johnson's previous seven seasons on the ThunderWolves' coaching staff, serving as the team's key recruiter, he helped guide the ThunderWolves to seasons at .500 or better in six out of seven seasons. Not since 2004 have ThunderWolves squads been able to lay such a claim, as teams coached by current Director of Athletics, Joe Folda (from 1999-2004) finished over .500 in four of five seasons.

Johnson came to CSU-Pueblo from Colorado College, where he coached for one season for the Tigers. Prior, he spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he was a women's assistant coach for two years before joining the men's staff as an assistant and head junior varsity coach for the 2005-06 campaign.

Johnson began his collegiate career as a point guard at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colo. and helped the team to back-to-back South Region IX championships in 1999 and 2000. He transferred to UC-Colorado Springs and helped lead the Mountain Lions to their first-ever RMAC Tournament appearance in 2000.

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Johnson started his prep career playing football and basketball at Ellison High School in Killeen, Texas, and played one year at Ft. Knox High School in Ft. Knox, Ky. where he was the starting quarterback and safety for the 1991 2A state championship team.

Johnson and his wife, Africa, are the proud parents of one daughter, Tomia.
