Simmons joined the Coors Brewing Company on April 15, 1981, as a publicist and assistant manager in Coors Sports.   Simmons was a senior manager in Event Marketing for six years, where he supervised 10 exempt and eight non-exempt personnel, and managed sports promotions, special events, and entertainment marketing for all existing and new brands.  He also managed stadium and arena sales at Coors.
 
From 1965 to 1981, Simmons worked as an athletic publicist.

A 1986 Greater Pueblo Sports Hall of Fame inductee, Simmons is a 2008 U. S. Volleyball E. Douglas Boyden Media Recognition Award, a 2021 University of Colorado Honorary C Award, and a 2023 CSU Pueblo President’s Distinguished Award recipient.  Simmons has been involved with:

Simmons and his wife (Lynn Schoen, married June 9, 1974, in Albuquerque) live in Longmont.  His wife is a consultant in elementary education (learning disabilities and resource room teacher) and educational staff development.  Born April 27, 1947, in Pueblo, Simmons is the son of Harry Hugh (1914-1990) and Mary Elizabeth (Pendleton, 1916-1986) Simmons.  He attended public schools (Lakeview Elementary and Corwin Junior High) in Pueblo and graduated from Central High School in 1965.  After receiving his bachelor's degree from Southern Colorado State College (now Colorado State University Pueblo) in March 1969, he earned his master's degree from the University of Iowa in January 1971.  Nicknamed “Blowfish,” Simmons was the first recipient of the Mass Communication Department’s Distinguished Alumnus Award at CSU-Pueblo (1972).  Simmons has a brother (James L. of Green Valley, Ariz., wife Kathy) and two sisters (the late Mary E. Sierer of St. George, Utah, husband Howard, and Martha J. Simmons of Greeley, Colo., husband Glenn).  He has two nephews, three nieces, four great nephews, and six great nieces.   Simmons’ father coached basketball for 40 seasons, winning 701 games.  A basketball player at the CU in the late 1930s, his father has been inducted into eight Halls - Greater Pueblo Sports (1973), Colorado Sports (1982), the NAIA (1982), the College Directors of Athletics (1986), the Junior College Basketball (1988), Pueblo (2009), Rocky Mountain Athletic (2006) and Colorado State Pueblo Athletics (2008).  The basketball floor in Massari Arena at CSU Pueblo is the Coach Harry H. Simmons Court.  A Marine. His father served in the Pacific during World War II and headed a reserve unit for over a decade in Pueblo.
