Sam Howery begins his coaching career at Colorado State University Pueblo as a graduate assistant with the ThunderWolves men's basketball program after completing an outstanding four-year playing career with the Pack.
A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., and a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Howery appeared in 97 career games while making 23 starts for the ThunderWolves from 2022-26. During his career, he totaled 263 points, 161 rebounds, 191 assists, and 70 steals while establishing himself as one of the program's most dependable floor leaders. He finished his career with a 2.32 assist-to-turnover ratio and helped guide CSU Pueblo to one of the program's most successful seasons in nearly three decades in 2025-26, as the ThunderWolves posted a 22-8 overall record, finished tied for second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a 15-5 mark, and advanced to the RMAC Tournament semifinals.
In his senior season, Howery played in all 30 games and made 17 starts, averaging 3.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. He ranked second on the team with 90 assists, third with 30 steals, and led the RMAC with a 3.10 assist-to-turnover ratio. He recorded career highs of 11 points and seven assists during the season.
Off the court, Howery excelled in the classroom. He graduated with a degree in Marketing while maintaining a 3.99 cumulative GPA and earned RMAC Men's Basketball All-Academic First Team honors three consecutive years, becoming one of the conference's premier student-athletes.
As a graduate assistant, Howery assists Head Coach Zach Ruebesam and the ThunderWolves coaching staff with player development, practice planning, scouting, video analysis, recruiting, and day-to-day operations while pursuing his graduate degree at CSU Pueblo.
