Leslie Haywood is entering her sixth season as topassistant for the CSU-Pueblo women's basketball programand seventh season on the coaching staff with ThunderWolvesbasketball.
Simply put, Haywood is a champion, having helped coach theThunderWolves to RMAC titles in three of her seven seasons onthe coaching staff and four trips to the NCAA Division II NationalTournament. In the six seasons she has been theprogram's top assistant coach, she has ended the season cuttingdown the nets at the RMAC Tournament three times.
Haywood is a veteran of ThunderWolves basketball, having playedfor the Pack from 2002 to 2006. She was a member of of the 2006RMAC Championship team in Coach Drown's first season at the helm,the first squad in school history to qualify for the NCAAtournament. Prior to that season, Haywood played for three seasonsunder coach Misty Murphy. She excelled in the program, showingprowess as a three-point shooter and defensivespecialist.
Haywood owned the school record for most games played in acareer as recently as the 2007-08 season, having been eclipsed byKaylon Miller late in the 07-08 campaign while Haywood wasassistant coach.
A gradaute of Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, Haywood wasborn and raised in Denver. She graduated from CSU-Pueblo in 2006with a degree in business management and marketing.
For the 2006-07 season, Haywood joined the ThunderWolves' staffas the team's second assistant, and was promoted to the firstassistant position prior to the 2007-08 season season.
Her duties include recruiting of prospective student-athletes,organizing the team's strength training, planning community serviceevents, Academic coordinator, and assisting in scheduling, teamtravel and fundraising.
Haywood is currently working on her Master's Degree inEducation. She is extremely close to her family, including her mom,dad, and brother, Joel.
