In his first season with the ThunderWolves, Jim Turgeon made school history by leading the Pack to a program record 26 wins. Turgeon also guided the ThunderWolves to their fifth RMAC Tournament Championship, a conference record.
The ThunderWolves earned a No.2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, their highest seeding ever. The Pack finished 26-6 with an 18-4 record in RMAC games.
With Turgeon at the helm, Dee Arrieta earned RMAC Tournament MVP honors. Turgeon's inaugural Pack team produced two First Team All-RMAC Players, one Second Team All-RMAC honoree and the RMAC's Freshman of the Year, Molly Rohrer. Three ThunderWolves earned a spot on the RMAC's All-Tournament team, and Turgeon's squad claimed RMAC Player of the Week honors six times.
On May 22, 2015, Colorado State University-Pueblo Director of Athletics Joe Folda announced the hiring of Jim Turgeon as the ninth head women’s basketball coach in program history.
Turgeon came to CSU-Pueblo after spending the previous eight seasons at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. During his tenure with the Reivers, Turgeon became the all-time leader in wins with a 191-65 (.746 winning percentage) record, including a 130-32 (.802) mark in the last five seasons.
Turgeon guided the Reivers to three Region VI titles (2010-11, 2013-14, 2014-15), one District K championship (2014-15) and one appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament (2014-15). Iowa Western climbed into the top-25 rankings in five out of eight seasons under Turgeon, including three seasons in which they cracked the top-5.
While at Iowa Western, Turgeon’s squads played exceptionally well on their home court. The Reivers went 80-8 (.909) in the last five seasons and 117-18 overall during Turgeon’s eight seasons at the helm of the program.
Under Turgeon’s leadership, Iowa Western strung together the longest overall winning streak (20) and home winning streak (34) in program history. Turgeon coached five National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Americans and 22 all-region players. The Reivers broke 28 individual and team records with Turgeon as the head coach.
In addition to their success on the court, Turgeon’s teams excelled in the classroom as seven players were named NJCAA Academic All-Americans and 49 were tabbed academic all-region.
Prior to his eight seasons at Iowa Western, Turgeon spent seven seasons at Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kan. Under Turgeon’s guidance, the Conquistadors posted a 124-97 (.561 winning percentage) record.
Turgeon graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. with a B.A. degree in physical education with an emphasis in sports facilities management. His brother, Mark, is the Head Men's Basketball Coach at the University of Maryland.
