The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team and head coach Bianca Duran announced another addition to their coaching staff with the hiring of Courtney Medina.

Medina comes to CSU Pueblo after serving two seasons as the graduate assistant softball coach as Emporia State University. The newcomer was the strength and conditioning coach for the softball team at Emporia and took on multiple roles.

"To finalize the staff with the hiring of Courtney excites me for the future of this program," Duran stated. "She is going to be an integral part of instilling the vision I have for the program."

Primarily, Medina wrote and tracked daily lifts and workouts on top of coordinating practice plans for fielders.

Prior to Emporia State, Medina worked as a volunteer assistant softball coach at Western Nebraska College. Once again, Medina wore multiple hats with Western Nebraska on top of her main role as the strength and conditioning coach.

"I chose CSU Pueblo because I really liked Coach B's vision for the team and the direction the program is headed," Medina commented. "Also, I like how community-based the athletics department is. I am excited to be a part of a program that places an emphasis on empowering women, being good people, on academics and being the best softball players – in that order."

Mideina finished by commenting on her excitement for the future. "I am excited to be somewhere where I feel like I can make a difference and be a part of a really well-rounded coaching staff!"

Medina has a strong background in the game of softball as she played for four seasons at Lubbock Christian in the Heartland Conference. She excelled as a base-runner by stealing 37 bases in 2017 to sit at 20th in the nation in the category.

Duran expanded on her excitement for the hiring of Medina. "Courtney brings passion, knowledge and hard work in all she does and her care for student-athletes is going to be what sets her apart from the rest."

The new hire was a NFCA Scholar Athlete in 2015, NJCAA All-Region IX First Team Outfielder in 2016 at Western Nebraska, and NFCA All-American Third Team in 2016. At Lubbock Christian, Medina was First Team All-Heartland Conference and Heartland Conference Newcomer of the Year in 2017. Lastly, Medina was able to attain Second Team All-Heartland Conference honors in 2018.

Medina attained her Associate's of Arts Degree from Western Nebraska in 2016, her Bachelor's of Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing in 2018, and finally her Master's of Business Adminstration from Emporia State in 2021.

Medina will begin at CSU Pueblo in September ahead of the Pack's 2022 spring season.
