Colorado State University Pueblo Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Matt Morris has announced the addition of Wilson Young to the ThunderWolves' coaching staff. Young brings a wealth of experience at both the NCAA Division I and high school levels, having previously served in coaching, athletic operations and educational roles at the University of Washington, University of Northern Colorado and Frontier Academy in Greeley, Colorado.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Wilson to our coaching staff here at CSU Pueblo," Morris said. "Wilson brings a great combination of championship-level coaching experience, Division I knowledge and a genuine passion for developing student-athletes. His success at Frontier Academy speaks for itself, and his time at the University of Washington has given him valuable experience at one of the highest levels of collegiate track and field. We believe he will be a tremendous addition to our program and the ThunderWolves family."
Young comes to Pueblo after serving as a cross country and track and field director of operations intern at the University of Washington, where he worked alongside Director of Operations Stephanie Bohannon. During his time with the Huskies, Young assisted with the day-to-day operations of the university's NCAA Division I cross country and track and field programs.
His responsibilities included coordinating team travel, managing meet entries, organizing official recruiting visits, overseeing compliance requirements and working closely with coaches, academic staff and athletics administrators. Young also assisted in organizing and executing three high-level indoor track and field meets, overseeing everything from World Athletics sanctioning and competition schedules to athlete entries, event seeding, volunteer coordination and meet-day operations.
Prior to his time in Seattle, Young spent five years at Frontier Academy in Greeley, Colorado, where he served in both assistant and head coaching roles for the school's cross country and track and field programs from June 2019 through June 2024.
During his tenure at Frontier Academy, Young helped guide the boys' cross country program to five consecutive regional championships and two Colorado Class 3A state championships. He also helped lead the girls' cross country team to three regional championships while assisting numerous student-athletes in establishing school records.
In addition to the program's success on the course and track, Young played an instrumental role in developing training programs for distance runners, sprinters and hurdlers. He also coordinated a coaching staff of six, organized competition schedules and team travel, and helped oversee a regional cross country meet.
Young placed a strong emphasis on leadership and student-athlete development throughout his time at Frontier Academy. He developed and implemented leadership initiatives within the program, including a student-athlete-led leadership conference designed to encourage personal growth and leadership among peers in the school community.
Alongside his coaching responsibilities, Young served as a teacher at Frontier Academy from October 2021 through May 2024, working with middle school students in grades six through eight. During his time as an educator, he developed curricula emphasizing leadership, teamwork, self-reflection, problem-solving and critical thinking.
Young also helped develop several schoolwide community initiatives, including Craft Your Legacy Week, a spirit week dedicated to strengthening relationships between students, teachers, parents and the surrounding community. He was additionally involved in implementing Wish Week, an initiative that brought the school community together to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
A former NCAA Division I student-athlete, Young competed in cross country and track and field at the University of Northern Colorado from 2018 to 2020. His experience competing at the collegiate level helped establish the foundation for his coaching philosophy and commitment to developing student-athletes both academically and athletically.
Young graduated cum laude from Northern Colorado in May 2021 with a bachelor's degree in Sport and Exercise Science, with an emphasis in K-12 Physical Education and a minor in Coaching. He was also recognized on the university's Dean's List during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 academic years.
Young continued his education at the University of Washington, pursuing a Master of Education with an emphasis in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from June 2025 through June 2026.
