SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Fireworks erupted Tuesday at Powder Horn Golf Club as the Colorado State University Pueblo women's golf team stormed from behind to capture the Travis Roy Memorial championship in dramatic fashion.
The ThunderWolves entered Tuesday's final round in third place at 40-over-par, eight shots behind leader Westmont College and three shots back of second-place Westminster.
CSU Pueblo responded when it mattered most.
The Pack battled throughout the final 18 holes and posted a 19-over-par 307 to erase the eight-shot deficit and capture the tournament championship with a 54-hole score of 59-over-par 923.
The championship came down to the final hole for Yale Lee.
With CSU Pueblo, Westmont and Westminster all tied at 61-over-par, Lee arrived at her final hole of the tournament, the par-5 16th, with the team championship hanging in the balance.
Lee delivered the shot the ThunderWolves needed, making eagle on the par-5 to break the three-way tie and lift CSU Pueblo to a two-shot victory over both Westmont and Westminster.
The clutch eagle also capped a spectacular final round for Lee, who fired a 3-under-par 69 to capture the individual championship.
Lee began Tuesday tied for fifth at 7-over-par before producing the Pack's best round of the tournament. After making the turn with a 2-over-par 38, Lee caught fire over her final nine holes, playing them in 5-under-par 31.
Her closing stretch featured three birdies and the decisive eagle on No. 16 as she surged to the top of the individual leaderboard.
Lee finished the tournament at 4-over-par following rounds of 73, 78 and 69 to earn medalist honors while simultaneously delivering the championship-clinching moment for the ThunderWolves.
Lisa Ekberg also capped off a strong season-opening tournament with a third-place individual finish.
Ekberg entered the final round in second place after firing a 1-under-par 71 Monday. She closed Tuesday with a 7-over-par 79 to finish the tournament at 9-over-par overall following rounds of 75, 71 and 79.
Aoife Browne provided an important counting score for the ThunderWolves in the final round, carding a 6-over-par 78. Browne opened with a 2-over 38 before finishing with a 4-over 40 over her final nine.
Sinead Ni Cheilleachair rounded out CSU Pueblo's four counting scores Tuesday with a 9-over-par 81. Ni Cheilleachair shot a 42 on her opening nine before improving with a 39 coming home. She finished tied for 23rd at 25-over-par overall.
Olivia Heard closed the tournament with a 12-over-par 84 and finished tied for 30th at 29-over-par.
Sofia Contreras rounded out the ThunderWolves' six-player lineup with an 18-over-par 90 in Tuesday's final round. She finished 52nd at 49-over-par overall.
CSU Pueblo's championship-clinching 307 was made up of Lee's 69, Browne's 78, Ekberg's 79 and Ni Cheilleachair's 81.
The victory provides an emphatic start to the 2026-27 season for a ThunderWolves program that entered the year as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason favorite after winning four consecutive conference championships.
After beginning the final round eight shots off the lead, CSU Pueblo erased the entire deficit and found itself deadlocked with Westmont and Westminster at 61-over with Lee standing over her final hole.
One eagle later, the ThunderWolves were champions.
CSU Pueblo finished at 59-over-par, two strokes clear of both Westmont and Westminster, to leave Sheridan with both the team and individual titles.
