SHERIDAN, Wyo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's golf team opened the 2026-27 season in strong fashion Sunday, completing its opening round at 17-over-par to currently sit in second place at the Travis Roy Memorial, hosted by South Dakota Mines at Powder Horn Golf Club.
The ThunderWolves were able to finish all 18 holes before play was suspended due to darkness. Several teams in the 12-team field still had holes remaining when play was halted.
CSU Pueblo sits just one stroke behind Westminster, which completed its opening round at 16-over-par to hold the clubhouse lead. The Pack finished at 17-over and will enter Monday near the top of the leaderboard when the remainder of the field completes the first round.
Yale Lee led the way for the ThunderWolves with a 1-over-par 73 and currently sits tied for second on the individual leaderboard.
Lee opened with a 2-over 38 on her first nine before firing a 1-under-par 35 over her final nine holes to close out the season-opening round.
Lisa Ekberg also turned in an impressive performance for the Pack, shooting a 3-over-par 75 to sit tied for sixth. Ekberg carded a 3-over 39 on her opening nine before playing the back nine at even-par with a 36.
Olivia Heard provided CSU Pueblo's third counting score with a 5-over-par 77 and currently sits tied for 13th.
Heard put together one of the strongest finishes of the day for the ThunderWolves. After opening with a 7-over 43 on her first nine, Heard responded by firing a 2-under-par 34 over the final nine holes to climb the individual leaderboard.
Sinead Ni Cheilleachair rounded out the Pack's four counting scores with an 8-over-par 80. Ni Cheilleachair was consistent throughout her opening round, shooting matching 4-over 40s on each nine, and currently sits tied for 21st.
Aoife Browne and Sofia Contreras made their collegiate deubts, also competiting in the six-player lineup for CSU Pueblo.
Browne carded a 17-over-par 89 to sit 52nd, while Contreras finished with a 21-over-par 93 and currently sits tied for 56th.
Sunday's performance provided an encouraging start for a CSU Pueblo program that enters the new campaign as the preseason favorite in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The ThunderWolves are coming off their fourth consecutive RMAC Championship and the program's first appearance at the NCAA Division II National Championships last spring.
With all six ThunderWolves finished with their opening rounds, CSU Pueblo will await the completion of round one Monday morning before beginning the second round of the Travis Roy Memorial.
The 54-hole tournament is scheduled to conclude Tuesday at Powder Horn Golf Club.
