ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women's cross country teams turned in strong performances Saturday morning at the 33rd Running Joe I. Vigil Open, highlighted by a runner-up individual finish from Caden Schweer and a Top 10 performance from Charlotte Young.
The ThunderWolves competed in the men's 8K and women's 5K races, with both squads placing multiple runners near the front of the field.
On the men's side, Schweer led the way with a career-best performance, crossing the finish line in 23:57.0 to finish second overall. Schweer matched the winning time of 23:57.0 and collected two team points for the Pack.
Senior Jon Sweepe gave CSU Pueblo a second runner inside the Top 10, finishing sixth overall in a personal-best 24:23.8. Reigning NCAA Division II 1,500-meter National Champion Caleb McLeod was the third ThunderWolf across the line, placing 12th in a personal-best 25:15.5, while Kameron Eustace followed closely in 14th at 25:19.9.
Freshman Nohlan Burgue rounded out the Pack's five scoring runners with a 25th-place finish in 26:17.1. Nick Hogge followed in 28th with a personal-best 26:22.6, while Tim Anstett clocked a personal-best 26:24.6 to finish 29th. Aaron Roberds was right behind in 31st at 26:27.6.
Luke Ware finished 33rd in 26:53.6, Brock Wilhjelm was 39th in 28:13.9, Sayer Vargues finished 41st in 28:42.8 and Bernardo Sada rounded out the CSU Pueblo contingent in 42nd with a time of 28:59.2.
The Pack men totaled 40 points from their five scoring runners, paced by Schweer's two points and Sweepe's five.
On the women's side, Young led a tightly packed CSU Pueblo group with an eighth-place overall finish, completing the 5K course in a personal-best 18:32.0.
Harriet Tuson followed in 11th place with a personal-best 18:53.0, while Alyssa Kulesa was just four seconds behind her in 12th with a personal-best time of 18:57.3. Sofia Camacho continued the Pack's strong run in 13th at a personal-best 19:17.6, and Ella Egizio completed CSU Pueblo's scoring five in 14th with a season-best 19:22.2.
Freshman Lilia Flo added another personal best for the ThunderWolves, placing 16th in 19:44.3. Jocelyn Olson finished 24th in a personal-best 22:02.9, followed by Viktoriia Novgorodtseva in 25th at 22:08.7. Annie Roberds recorded a season-best 22:26.2 to finish 26th, while Nerys Tullett rounded out the Pack lineup in 27th at 23:06.3.
CSU Pueblo's five scoring women combined for 50 points, as Young, Tuson, Kulesa, Camacho and Egizio finished consecutively from eighth through 14th among the scoring runners.
