TUCSON, Ariz. - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's golf team positioned itself firmly in contention after the opening round of the West Texas A&M Desert Invite, carding an 11-over 299 to sit in third place at Ventana Canyon in Tucson, Arizona.
Leading the charge for the ThunderWolves was Olivia Heard, who delivered a composed, even-par 72 to pace the Pack on day one. Heard's steady round kept CSU Pueblo within striking distance in a competitive field and set the tone for a balanced team performance.
Senior captain Freya Constable once again showcased her consistency, turning in a 1-over 73. Constable's round was highlighted by remarkable steadiness, recording 16 pars across her 18 holes to anchor the ThunderWolves lineup.
Freshman Thale Victoria Estensen added a 4-over 76 in her opening round, navigating a rollercoaster front nine that featured just three pars. Despite the early ups and downs, the rookie settled in to provide a valuable counting score for the Pack.
Yale Lee rounded out the team scoring with a 6-over 78, battling through a challenging day at Ventana Canyon to keep CSU Pueblo in the hunt heading into round two.
Lisa Ekberg's 7-over 79 was used as the ThunderWolves' throwout score on Monday. The Swedish standout entered the tournament riding a wave of momentum following back-to-back strong performances, including a recent victory at the Southern Colorado Open.
The Pack will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, paired alongside tournament leader CSU East Bay, who sits at 1-under par, and host West Texas A&M, currently in second place at 7-over. With a strong grouping and momentum on their side, the ThunderWolves will look to make a move up the leaderboard in the final round.
