PUEBLO, Colo. - Colorado State University Pueblo women's golf delivered a statement performance on its home course, capturing the team title at the Southern Colorado Open at Walking Stick Golf Club and continuing what has been a dominant season for the ThunderWolves.
Playing on a familiar layout in Pueblo, the Pack rose above a competitive field to secure their fourth team championship of the year, winning four of the six tournaments they have entered this season. CSU Pueblo finished at 12-over par for the week after posting rounds of 295 and 293, holding off a strong push from UT Dallas, a Lone Star Conference contender, by five strokes.
The ThunderWolves not only claimed the overall title, but also set the tone within conference play, finishing first among the six Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams in the field and reinforcing their standing as one of the league's premier squads this spring.
Individually,
Lisa Ekberg led the charge with a standout performance, tying for medalist honors after firing rounds of 72 and 71 to finish at 1-under par. Ekberg's consistency across both days anchored the lineup and helped propel CSU Pueblo to the top of the leaderboard.
Olivia Heard followed with a solid showing, carding rounds of 75 and 73 to finish at 4-over par, while
Freya Constable added a 5-over performance with rounds of 75 and 74.
Thale Victoria Estensen contributed with rounds of 73 and 75, and
Yale Lee rounded out the team scoring with two rounds of 78.
"Walking Stick is never an easy test, and I thought our girls really rose to the challenge this week," said head coach John Wristen. "They stayed composed, trusted their game, and handled a difficult course the way championship teams do. I'm incredibly proud of the way they competed from start to finish -Â they truly played like champions."
With another trophy in hand and momentum firmly on their side, the ThunderWolves now turn their attention to their next test. CSU Pueblo will head to Goodyear, Arizona, for the Palm Valley Classic at Palm Valley Golf Club, hosted by Western New Mexico, on April 3–4.
