GUNNISON, Colo. (January 10, 2025) - The Colorado State University Pueblo wrestling team posted a strong 2-1 showing at the 35th Annual Tracy Borah Duals, earning dual victories over Menlo (CA) and Minot State while dropping a competitive matchup against Vanguard (CA).
Solomon Arnds-Volcin (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
Henry Sturn (Jr., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) both went unbeaten and earned three victories, and
Mario Tafoya (Jr., Albuquerque, NM) picked up two wins on Saturday.
CSU Pueblo opened the day with a 21-19 loss against Vanguard. The dual was highlighted by key victories throughout the lineup. Thales Rivas (Fr., Houston, Tex.) secured a 7-0 decision at 157, while Deacon Pickett (Fr., Las Vegas, Nev.) added a 10-5 win in the next match at 165 pounds. Arnds-Volcin scored a tech fall win at 174, and Sturn sealed the dual with a 4-2 decision to give the ThunderWolves the narrow victory.
The ThunderWolves followed with another tight dual, defeating Menlo 21-17. CSU Pueblo picked up crucial points from Julian Espinoza (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) from the onset at 125Â with a 13-6 decision.
Kevin Boston (So., Omaha, Neb.) earned six team points for the Pack following a forfeit win at 149.
Arnds-Volcin remained dominant with another technical fall at 174, while Tafoya earned a major decision at 184. Sturn once again delivered at heavyweight, closing the dual with a 4-1 decision.
CSU Pueblo wrapped up the event with a 26-21 win over Minot State in a back-and-forth battle. Eddie Bowman (So., Trinidad, Colo.) provided a highlight with a first-period fall at 149, while Pickett (165) and Arnds-Volcin (174) continued to produce with decisive wins. Tafoya added a 5-3 decision at 184, and Sturn capped his perfect day with a 10-3 victory at 285.
