PUEBLO, Colo. (Sept. 4, 2025) - The No. 3 ranked Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team opened the 2025 season with a tightly contested 0-0 draw against St. Mary's Thursday evening at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
The ThunderWolves (0-0-1) controlled much of the tempo, generating an 8-6 advantage in total shots while earning six corner kicks to the Rattlers' two. CSU Pueblo created several strong chances in the first half, highlighted by opportunities from
Logan Cozier (R-So., Picking, Ontario) and
Leonardo Vilchis (Gr., Mexico City, Mexico), both of whom forced key saves from the Rattlers goalkeeper.
Defensively, the Pack displayed composure and organization across the backline. Goalkeeper
Tristan Whitlock (R-Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) collected two saves en route to a clean sheet in the season opener, while defenders
Jose Peris Gimeno (Fr., Burriana, Castellon, Spain),
Pedro Martinez Castro (Fr., Langreo, Spain), and
Raul Perez Rodriguez (Fr., Seville, Spain) anchored a unit that limited the Rattlers to only two shots on frame.
The second half featured a physical battle, with both teams receiving three yellow cards apiece. Despite late efforts from
Yahel Paramo Caudillo (Jr., Leon, Mexico) and
Gabriel Obletter (Jr., Ortisei, Italy), the Pack were unable to break the deadlock.
CSU Pueblo returns to action Saturday, Sep. 6, when the ThunderWolves host Sul Ross State at Gonzales Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon.
