PUEBLO, Colo. (March 23, 2025) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team scored 23 runs on twenty-six hits in two run-rule victory games Saturday, and completed a four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) series sweep over New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls at Rawlings Softball Complex.
The ThunderWolves won the first game 12-4 (6 inn.) and completed the sweep with an 11-3 (6 inn.) in the series finale.
With the DH sweep, CSU Pueblo pushes its win streak to double-digits and it is the fifth time in school history the ThunderWolves have reached a win streak of ten or more.
In 2016, the Pack earned an 11-game win streak and have completed that feat three times.
For the day,
Madelyn Huerta (Jr., Azusa, Calif.) led the offensive attack and recorded six hits, 5 RBI and four runs.
McKenna James (Jr., Windsor, Colo.) picked up her 10th win in the circle and tossed a complete game in the opener. She threw six innings and allowed four runs and one earned and she ended with three strikeouts.
In game two,
Lucy Carney (Sr., Lakewood, Colo.) earned the win after going the distance in six innings and gave up three runs and she gave up six hits and allowed four walks with one strikeout.
Game One recap
New Mexico Highlands went ahead scored three runs in the second inning before the Pack got on the board with one run in their half. The Cowgirls added another run in the third and CSU Pueblo responded and took a 5-4 lead with four runs in the bottom half.
CSU Pueblo erupted for twelve hits and along with Huerta's three hits, James helped herself at the dish with two hits and four RBI. Sisters and teammates
Caitlyn Cole (Jr., Merced, Calif.) and
Cali Cole (Fr., Merced, Calif.) each recorded two hits and combined for six runs.
The younger Cole also earned three RBI.
Zoie Armstrong (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) came on to pinch in in the fifth and smacked a two-run double, adding to the offensive explosion.
Game Two recap
Highlands scored one run in the top of the first and the Pack responded with four runs in their half, thanks to a 3-run bomb from Huerta and an RBI-single hit by
Tori Cordova (Sr., Pueblo West, Colo.).
Caitlyn Cole hit an RBI-single in the second and the game would remain at 5-1 until the fourth inning.
NMHU cut the lead in half with a pair of runs and CSU Pueblo's offense came alive with five runs in their half of the fourth inning and built a 10-3 lead.
The winning run would cross with no outs in the sixth.
On Deck
CSU Pueblo (19-12, 18-6 RMAC) remains in solid position in the RMAC Standings heading into the second half of conference play. Up next, the Pack travel west and take on Colorado Mesa beginning Saturday in Grand Junction.
