Bowman punches ticket to nationals; four others finish Top 6

GUNNISON, Colo. (March 1, 2025) - Colorado State University Pueblo wrestling freshman Eddie Bowman (Trinidad, Colo.) punched his ticket to the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships after finishing in second place at 133 pounds on Saturday at the NCAA Super Region VI, hosted by Western Colorado University.

The NCAA DII Championships are set for March 14-15 at Corteva Coliseum in Indianapolis.

Four other wrestlers finished in the Top 6 for CSU Pueblo. Solomon Arnds-Volcin (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed fifth at 174, along with 5th place finishes from Donn Greer (Jr., Soledad, Calif.) at 184 and Henry Sturn (So., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) made the podium at 285.

Rhys Sellers (Jr., Gallup, NM) finished in sixth place at 125.

The RMAC Freshman of the Year, Bowman went 2-1 on the day and made it to the 1st place match, falling by a 4-2 decision against Nebrask-Kearney's Hector Serratos.

Bowman's day started after receiving a first round bye and in the second round, he faced Jakob Romero from Adams State and scored two take downs and an escape point to earn a 7-3 decision.

In his semifinal match against Chadron State's James Davis, both wrestlers earned escape points before the match went into overtime. In the SV-1, Bowman earned a three-point take down to secure his spot in the 1st place match and a trip to nationals.

For Arnds-Volcin in the 174 pound bracket, he suffered a 7-4 defeat against Wyatt Reisz from Colorado School of Mines in the third overtime and was sent to the consolation side of the bracket.

In his next outing versus Connor Padgett from Fort Hays State, Arnds-Volcin secured a 6-2 decision and earned a pair of take downs to advance in the bracket.

In the next match, he faced Kydyn Lima from San Francisco State and won by maj. 17-9.

Facing Western Colorado's Cole Hernandez in the consolation semifinal, Arnds-Volcin lost a tough 4-2 decision.

In the 5th place match, Arnds-Volcin defeated Dallas Porter from Adams State to take home his fifth place finish.

Greer's journey Saturday included a win by pin (4:36) against Colorado School of Mines' Ethan Kremer and in the quarterfinal match, Greer defeated Jasob Bynarowicz of Colorado Mesa in a hard-fought 5-4 decision.

In his semifinal match against Keegan Gehlhausen from Chadron State, Greer suffered a 14-2 maj. loss and in the consolation semifinal, Greer was pinned at 5:34 and was sent to the 5th place match.

In the rematch versus Bynarowicz, Greer was the more physical athlete on the mat and scored 15-0 shutout TF win and secured his fifth place finish.

For Sturn at 285, he won by maj. over Cade Whish from Colorado School of Mines 10-1 and in the semifinal, lost by fall (4:20) against Nebraska-Kearney's Crew Howard.

In the consolation semifinal versus Riley Dean-Butt from Western Colorado, Sturn lost by a 7-2 decision.

In the 5th place match against Carson Hatch from Cal Poly Humboldt, Sturn scored two take downs and an escape to come away with a 7-3 decision.

At 141, Hayden Tuma (Fr., Boise, Idaho) went 2-2 on the day and scored a pair of wiins by pin over Joseph Misitano from New Mexico Highlands by fall (3:46) and Kevin Honas from Fort Hays State (1:35).

Tuma suffered setbacks against Mines' Grayston DiBlasi (5:15) and Tuma was forced to bow out in the consolation round 3 match against Cyrus Wells due to medical forfeit.

Kevin Boston (Fr., Omaha, Neb.) wrestled at 149 and scored a TF win over John Baker from New Mexico Highlands with an 18-3 route and in his second match, Boston lost 5-0 against UNK's Nick James.

Boston rebounded with a 15-5 maj. over Ryan Hicks of Simon Fraser and in the consolation round 3 match against Colorado Mesa's Alex Castaneda, Boston was pinned (0:38) in the first period.

2024 NCAA Qaulifier Cyruss Meeks (Sr., Casper, Wyo.) went 0-2 and lost matches against Marcus Caro from Mines and against Brandon Paredes from Chadron State, ending his Pack career.

Aaron Concepcion (Fr., Anchorage, Alaska) competed at 165 and went 1-2 on the day. He won by fall (1:35) over Jacob Judd from Fort Hays State. Concepcion dropped a 6-5 decision in the quartfinal match versus Kyle Botelho from San Francisco State and in the next match, lost by fall (2:33) against Levi Deaguero from Adams State.

Remington Winmill (R-So., Wendell, Idaho) went 0-2 and lost by TF versus UNK's Jackson Kinsella and was pinned (3:39) versus Mason Vilwok from Chadron State.

Up Next
Bowman will train over the next two weeks and head to Indianapolis and compete for a NCAA Championship. The Top 8 finishers at each weight will earn All-American status.
