PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo used a strong second half here Thursday evening as the ThunderWolves outscored MSU Denver 42-34 to pick up a 77-74 come-from-behind win over the Roadrunners in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Massari Arena.
The win snapped a three-game home losing streak and improved the Pack's record to 12-15 overall and 7-12 in the RMAC, while MSU Denver fell to 19-8 overall and 13-6 in the RMAC. The Pack enters Saturday's season finale at home with No. 5 ranked Colorado School of Mines tied for 11th in the league standings.
In Thursday's second to last game of the season, the Pack put four players in double figures as fifth-year senior guard
Brevin Walter (Las Vegas, Nev./South Dakota Mines) finished with a game-high 22 points, including scoring the Pack's final six points and sealing the win with two free throws with seven seconds left. With his 22 points, Walter pushed his career scoring total to 2,034 points, which is fourth most among active Division II players. He scored a season-high 29 points last Saturday at Adams State to go over the 2,000 career point mark.

Victor Lado (Louisville, Ky./Vincennes University) added 17 points and eight rebounds for his third straight double-digit scoring game. Senior forward
De'Shaun Cooper (San Diego, Calif./Balboa School) and redshirt sophomore guard
Jaden Kennis (Windsor, Colo./MSU Denver) each tallied 10 points and combined for 14 rebounds and eight assists.
Walter and Lado combined to score 28 of the Pack's 42 second half points.
After trailing 40-35 at the half, the Pack opened the second half on a 6-2 run capped by a Walter trey to pull within 42-42 just two-plus minutes into the half. After Caleb McGill slammed home a dunk to give MSU Denver a 44-41 lead, the Pack used an 11-6 run to take a 52-50 lead. The run began with two free throws by Kennis and was capped by a jump shot from Kennis with 10:37 left in the game.
Logan Threatt would score on a dunk 44 seconds after Kennis' basket to tie the game at 52, but the Pack responded with a 15-6 run capped by a Cooper dunk to take a 67-58 lead with 5:49 remaining in the contest. Walter scored seven of the Pack's 15 points during the run.
MSUD would respond with a 14-4 run that was capped by a trey from Threatt to give the Roadrunners a 72-71 lead with 1:34 left. On the Pack's ensuing possession, Lado gave the Pack a 73-72 on a dunk.
The Roadrunners, though, came right back down the floor and retook the lead on a tip-in lay-up by Quave Propst-Allison to give his team a 74-73 lead with 44 seconds left. After a timeout by the Pack, Walter gave the Pack a 75-74 on his turnaround jumper with 29 seconds left.
MSUD would fail to score on its next trip down the floor, and after KJ Garrett missed a second-change opportunity with seven seconds left, Walter pulled down the rebound and was fouled and stepped to the free throw line to seal the victory.
Threatt paced the Roadrunners with 20 points, while Sufyan Elkannan and McGill added 16 points, and Brayden Carter tallied 11 points and seven rebounds. Propst-Allison added a game-high nine rebounds as MSU Denver was outrebounded, 38-36.
MSU Denver jumped out to a 7-2 lead just two-plus minutes into the contest, but the Pack used back-to-back baskets by Kennis and Cooper to pull within 7-6.
The Roadrunners would answer back by scoring 10 of the next 15 points to take a 17-11 lead with 11:50 left in the opening half. The Pack, though, used a 9-2 run capped by a trey from junior guard
Kesean Bazile (Victorville, Calif./West Hills Lemoore) to take a 20-19 lead with 7:53 left in the game.
MSU Denver answered back with an 11-0 run to take a 31-20 lead, before the Pack responded with a 15-5 run capped by a 3-point play from Walter to drop the Roadrunners' lead to 36-35 with 36 seconds left. MSU Denver would score the final five points of the half to take a 40-35 halftime lead.
CSU Pueblo finished the game shooting 48 percent from the field and 40 percent (6-for-15) from the 3-point line, while the Roadrunners shot 44 percent from the field and 26 percent (5-for-19) from downtown.
The Pack won held a 22-12 edge in free throw attempts as they finished the game shooting 86 percent (19-for-22) at the line, while MSU Denver was just 7-for-12 (58.3 percent) from the line. Over its last three games, the Pack has gone 69-for-75 (92 percent) from the free throw line.
The Pack collected 38 rebounds as Kennis and Lado each had eight, while Walter added seven boards and Cooper had six boards.
MSU Denver forced 12 Pack turnovers that led to 14 points, while the Pack forced 11 turnovers that led to 16 points. The Pack also had 19 assists on 26 made baskets as Kennis had five assists against his former school, while Walter had four. MSUD had 15 assists on 31 made baskets.
Both teams blocked two shots, while MSUD held a 9-3 edge in steals.
The Pack will close out the 2024-25 season with a 6 p.m. Senior Night game on Saturday, March 1 against regular season RMAC Champion Mines, who fell to 23-4 overall and 17-2 in the RMAC following its 58-57 loss Thursday night at UCCS. Before Saturday's game, the Pac will honor its three seniors in a pregame ceremony.
