Swimming Has Strong Performance At Altitude In Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Swim team had a strong showing against Colorado College in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon at the Schlessman Natatorium on the campus of Colorado College. 

Colorado College defeated the ThunderWolves in the dual 167-62. The meet had no men's teams competing or diving competitions, forcing short breaks for the ThunderWolves.

Head Coach Susanne Divelbiss said after the meet, "I was pleased with our girls performance today. They girls fought hard on short rest and coming right out the Christmas break." Divelbiss also said, "We have some things to work on before Senior Day next week, but overall our girls fought hard and I am pleased with the effort."

Olivia Dannhaus (Sheridan, Wyoming/Sheridan) and Carla Sanchez Guareno (Tarragona, Spain) led the way for the ThunderWolves, both having strong performances and picking up wins for the Pack. Dannhaus accumulated 490 points in the dual, while Sanchez Guareno put together 465.5 points.

Aleksandra Dutkowiak (Wroclaw, Poland) had a strong performance in the 1000 freestyle, picking up a third place finish and a time of 12:05.65 the pace the Pack. 

In the 200 freestyle finals, Marissa Mangino (Mesa, Ariz./Red Mountain) had a fourth place finish with a time of 2:16.70, while Margaret Laborde Lagrave (Sacramento, Calif./Saint Francis) finished fifth in the 50 free, swimming a time of 27.20. 

Dannhaus won the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.07, barely staving off her own teammate Laci Denn (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Mainland Regional), who finished second and a time of 2:19.92. Dannhaus also led the way for the Pack in the 100 free, finishing fourth.

Paola C Wu (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) had a great showing in the 100 fly, picking up a runner-up performance and a time of 1:01.78. C Wu also picked up a solid runner-up in the 500 free with a time of 5:44.06. 

Sanchez Guareno won the 100 back with a time of 1:02.15, and also picked up a personal best in the 100 breast, finishing fourth and a time of 1:15.17.

UP NEXT FOR THE PACK

The ThunderWolves are back in action on Jan. 18 in Pueblo at the Sam Jones Natatorium for Senior Day at 11:00 AM.
