Women's Tennis Falls to Nebraska-Kearney at Home

Pack Hosts Fort Hays State on Saturday at 8 A.M.

PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo dropped its second straight match here Friday afternoon as they fell 7-0 to the University of Nebraska-Kearney in a non-conference dual match held at the Pueblo City Park Tennis Courts.
 
The UNK match was the second of three straight home matches for the ThunderWolves to open the home portion of its 2024-25 schedule. The Pack opened its home schedule with a 6-1 loss to Lubbock Christian earlier on Friday.
 
With the setback, the Pack fall to 0-2 on the season, the UNK improved to 3-0 on the young season.
 
The two teams began the match by playing doubles and the Pack won five games over the three doubles matches as UNK took a 1-0 lead.
 
In doubles, the Pack's No. 1 team of sophomore Mariangel Nunez (Weston, Fla./Unidad Educativa Padre Claret) and junior Margot Aebischer (Etupes, France/Eastern Arizona College) fell 6-3 to UNK's tandem of Tanya Midzi and Narindra Ranaivo.
 
UNK won the next two doubles matches by identical 6-1 scores.
 
Meanwhile, in singles play, the Pack won a total of nine games over six matches but lost by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6.
 
The best match of the set for the Pack came at No. 1 singles as Nunez fell 6-3, 6-2 to UNK's Fabiana Gamboa.
 
Aebischer fell at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-0) to Ranaivo, while senior Marta Garcia (Alcala de Hernares, Spain/Cardinal Stritch) fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles to Midzi.
 
The Pack will conclude the homestand with an 8 a.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 14 against Fort Hays State. Last season, the Pack fell by 4-3 scores two times to the Tigers.
