GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (May 3, 2024) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team saw its season come to an end on Friday following a 4-2 defeat against Colorado Mesa in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament at CMU Softball Field.
Offensively, the ThunderWolves recorded five hits led by
Madelyn Huerta (So., Azusa, Calif.) who finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Darleen Falcon (So., Moreno Valley, Calif.) went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI.
Raelynn Rogers (Jr., Surprise, Ariz.) helped to get the Pack on the board in the first inning with a single and stolen base got her into scoring position.
The next hitter,
Caitlyn Cole (So., Merced, Calif.) reached on an error and after two outs, Huerta stepped in and blasted a double down the right field line scoring Rogers and aggressive base running from Cole resulted in being thrown out at the plate and ended the inning.
Starting in the circle for the Pack,
McKenna James (So., Windsor, Colo.) allowed just one hit through three innings and in the fourth, gave up the tying run after retiring the first two batters was followed by three singles.
A quiet fifth inning for both teams got the Pack back on offense in the sixth and Cole led off the inning with a triple down the left field line and she would score on a sac bunt from Falcon and put the Pack back on top 2-1.
In the home half of the sixth, CMU took its first lead with a 3-run home run hit by Ava Fugate put the Mavericks ahead 4-2.
Marissa Robertson (So., Rocklin, Calif.) came on to get the final out by way of a strikeout for the Pack.
In the seventh, CSU Pueblo was retired in order and put an ending to the season.
CSU Pueblo finishes the year with a 22-35 record.
