GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (April 27, 2024) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team wrapped up its regular season schedule with two final games at No. 25 Colorado Mesa, falling 8-0 (6 inn.) and 9-1 (5 inn.) to the Mavericks at CMU Softball Field.
The ThunderWolves recorded seven hits and were led by the first three hitters in the lineup for both games.
Raelynn Rogers (Jr., Surprise, Ariz.),
Caitlyn Cole (So., Merced, Calif.) and
Emma Case (Fr., Loveland, Colo.) each recorded two hits for the Pack.
Game one recap
The ThunderWolves went down 2-0 after two solo home runs by the Mavericks gave them the early lead.
In the bottom of the third inning, Pack hurler
McKenna James (So., Windsor, Colo.) pitched out of a two-out bases loaded jam and keep CMU off the board.
CSU Pueblo's best scoring chance came with two outs in the fourth when the Pack hit back-to-back singles and a hit by pitch loaded the bases and a fly out down the right field line ended the scoring opportunity.
Colorado Mesa pitcher Presslee Christensen allowed one more hit in the fifth before the Mavericks offense ended the game on a two-run double and capped a five-run sixth inning by the Mavs.
James went 5.1 innings and gave up four runs and two earned with four walks and a strikeout. She falls to 8-17 on the year.
Jacelynn Trujillo (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) gave up three hits and four runs in 1/3 inning pitched.Â
Game two recap
In the series finale, Colorado Mesa scored seven runs in the second inning on five hits to take the lead. CSU Pueblo got on the board and scored a run in the third inning on a RBI-single hit by Cole down the left field line.
The Pack's only other hit came to start the game, an infield single hit by Rogers.
CMU added another run in the third and scored the winning run in the fifth to close the game in the sixth, a 9-1 Pack defeat.
Marissa Robertson (So., Rocklin, Calif.) takes the loss and falls to 10-10 on the year.
Lucy Carney (Jr., Lakewood, Colo.) tossed 2.1 innings of work and gave up two runs.
On Deck
CSU Pueblo finishes the regular season with a 22-33 record overall and a 20-24 record in the RMAC. The ThunderWolves end the season in sixth place and will wait for official release of the upcoming RMAC Tournament bracket.
