IRVINE, Calif. – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's lacrosse saw its two-game win streak halted here Friday evening as the ThunderWolves suffered a 21-7 setback against Concordia University Irvine in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference at Golden Eagles Field.
With the setback, the Pack fall to 2-10 overall and 1-5 in the RMAC, while CUI improved to 5-7 overall and 4-4 in the RMAC.
Friday's game was the final regular season road game for the Pack as they finished with an 0-5 road record.
Junior attacker
Johnny Cole (University Place, Wash./Curtis Senior) paced the Pack offensive attack with two goals, while sophomore attacker
Kyle Parker (Hamilton, New Zealand/Northland College) and sophomore midfielder
Chris Easley (Southington, Conn./Weber) had one goal and one assist each.
CUI jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes of action, before the Pack opened the second period with three straight goals, including two goals by Cole and a goal from senior midfielder
Kevin Gallagher (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View) to pull within 7-3. Cole's first goal and Gallagher's goals were unassisted, while Cole's latter goal was an assist from senior midfielder
CJ Rowe (Indianapolis, Ind./CU-Chicago).
The Golden Eagles would respond with three straight goals of their own to push CUI's lead to 10-3. The Pack closed the second period with a goal by Easley that was assisted by Parker with one second to cut CUI's lead to 10-4 at the half.
CUI would put the game out of reach in the third period by scoring eight straight goals to push in front 18-4 heading into the final period.
The Pack would stop the CUI flurry of goals just 26 seconds into the fourth period on an unassisted goal by sophomore attacker
Andrew Dzubak (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Mount Saint Vincent). The goal by Dzubak was his team-leading 23rd of the year.
CSU Pueblo would get two more goals in the fourth period from freshman midfielder
Gideon Butler (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) and Parker. Butler's goal was assisted by Easley, while Parker's goal was unassisted.
CUI would score three goals in the final period to set the final margin.
The Pack were outshot, 54-33, in the game as Parker led the way with seven shots, while Dzubak added five shots.
CUI also won the ground ball battle, 39-17 as Rowe led the way for the Pack with six and sophomore midfielder
Bryce Campbell (Meridian, Idaho/Meridian) had six face-offs as the Pack were 7-for-29 on face-offs. CUI won 22 face-offs with Cade Poe going 11-for-12 to pace the Golden Eagles.
The Pack were credited with 11 caused turnovers with freshman defender
Logan Place (Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail) leading the way with four.
Nick Beeson paced CUI with six goals, while Drew Buckley added five goals in the win. Beeson and Garrett Burns each tallied two assists in the game. Poe tallied a game-high 12 ground balls.

Cole Rutz (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) played 39-plus minutes as he made three saves and tallied one ground ball. Sophomore goalie
Connor Russell (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) played 20-plus minutes in goal as he made five saves.
Daniel Yang played nearly 46 minutes in the game and made eight saves, allowed four goals and recorded three ground balls. Wyatt Groeneveld played 14-plus minutes and allowed three goals and made no saves.
