CSU Pueblo drops RMAC dual at Chadron State

CHADRON, Neb. (February 10, 2024) - The Colorado State University Pueblo wrestling team competed in its final road dual of the regular season on Saturday, falling 31-10 at Chadron State College.

With the dual win, Chadron State clinched the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Regular Season title.

On the night, CSU Pueblo took home three wins in the middle weight matches. Cyruss Meeks (Jr., Casper, Wyo.) scored the first team points for the ThunderWolves at 157 after scoring a 12-3 maj. decision win over Clayton Robinson. 

In the match, Meeks scored an early take down in the first period and Robinson was able to escape for the 3-1 lead for Meeks. 

During the second, Meeks began in the bottom position and got an escape point and another take down and built a 7-1 lead after two. In the last period, Meeks earned another take down and after two stall warnings, was given another point and got a bonus riding time point.

In the next bout at 165, Elijah Valdez (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) was victorious over Jaziah Whaley, scoring a 4-2 decision win and three more team points for the Pack.

Valdez earned a first period take down and would take the 3-0 lead into the second period where Whaley earned a one point escape.

In the third period, Valdez was on bottom to begin and earned an escape point for a 4-1 lead. Two stall warnings were called against Valdez, resulting in a point being awarded to Whaley before the final buzzer sounded in favor or Valdez.

At 174, Solomon Arnds-Volcin (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) had arguably the match of the night against Keegan Gehlhausen and would come away with a thrilling 9-8 victory and three more team points for the Pack.

In other matches, the Eagles earned four victories by fall and two major decision wins for the 31 team points.

Up next
CSU Pueblo returns home for a three-match homestand starting Wednesday against Adams State at 6 p.m. inside Massari Arena.

Over the weekend, the ThunderWolves will host New Mexico Highlands on Friday at 6 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season dual season on Saturday against San Francisco State starting at 2 p.m.
