LAS VEGAS, Nev. (December 21, 2024) - The Colorado State University Pueblo wrestling team traveled to Sin City and had a strong outing at the 2024 Desert Duals and finished 3-1 on Saturday inside the Flamingo Hotel & Casino.
CSU Pueblo lost the opener against Minnesota State before earning wins over Vanguard, Menlo and Arizona Christian. The ThunderWolves were led by
Rhys Sellers (Jr., Gallup, NM) who went unbeaten in four matches including two first period pins.
Henry Sturn (So., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.)Â recorded three wins by decision and
Remington Winmill (R-So., Wendell, Idaho) picked up two wins.
Dual Recaps
In the first outing against Minnesota State, the Pack started out slow and lost the first seven matches before getting their first win at the 197 pound bout. Winmill wrestled and was victorious over the Mavericks' Jesus Gonzalez with a 7-3 decision, and in the next bout at 285, Sturn scored a 9-6 decision over Tanner Gaffey.
Sellers earned four team points for the Pack with a 15-2 maj. against Jacob Fitzpatrick.
In the second dual of the day against Vanguard University, the ThunderWolves won seven of the ten matches and got their first win in the third dual at 157 pounds after
Cyruss Meeks (Sr., Casper, Wyo.) scored a win by fall (6:59) with one second left in the third period against Caidence Turner and earned the ThunderWolves six team points.
At 165,
Aaron Concepcion (Fr., Anchorage, Alaska) earned a win by fall (6:19) over Richard Motas.
Solomon Arnds-Volcin (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) kept the win streak alive at 174 pounds with a 9-7 decision against Marquize Brown.
In the next bout at 184 pounds,
Donn Greer (Jr., Soledad, Calif.) took home a 15-2 maj. over Keagen Kroeger, followed by a 4-0 decision for Sturn over Roman Torres and a 18-2 TF victory for
Eddie Bowman (Fr., Trinidad, Colo.) against Robert Villegas.
CSU Pueblo dominated its third dual against Menlo and recorded five straight wins and came away with a 29-12 team win. In the dual, Sellers and Winmill picked up wins by fall and Concepcion earned an 18-2 TF win. Pack newcomer Hayden Tuma earned his first match with the ThunderWolves, a 7-6 decision over Roberto Lopez.
In the final outing against Arizona Christian, the ThunderWolves earned three wins by fall in the 32-11 victory. Sellers earned another first period pin over Abraham Pablo.
Tuma picked up a 15-7 decision at 141 and
Cole Bennett (Jr., Grapevine, Tex.) picked up his first win of the day, a 13-11 decision over Josiah Bohn.
Meeks earned his second pin fall (6:42) win over Kevin Courseault, followed with an 17-8 maj. win for Concepcion against Christian Gallardo.
Arnds-Volcin registered a fall (2:23) victory against Anthony Aguilera. Greer ended the team scoring and picked up three more team points for the ThunderWolves with a 9-6 decision versus Kaden Martin.

CSU Pueblo will have two weeks off for the holiday break before returning to action on January 10 at the Western Colorado Open in Gunnison, Colorado.
