KEARNEY, Neb. (November 23, 2024) - The Colorado State University Pueblo wrestling team made its 2024-25 season debut on Saturday at the Younes Hospitality Open hosted by University of Nebrask-Kearney at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.
The ThunderWolves sent sixteen into battle in two separate divisions, the Elite Bracket and the Amateur Bracket and eight wrestlers recorded at least two wins in their respective bracket, led by a four win day by freshman
Kevin Boston (Omaha, Neb.) at 149-pounds in the Amateur Bracket.
Boston earned three decision wins and a 17-1 TF victory over Caleb Lowell of the Division-I Colorado State University Wrestling Club.
Aaron Concepcion (Fr., Anchorage, Alaska) had a strong debut at 165 in the Elite Bracket and picked up three wins including a pair of TF victories. After suffering a 15-5 Maj. loss in his first match, Concepcion bounced back and earned a first round win by fall (0:46) over Logan Milikan from Midland (Neb.), along with a 19-4 TF win over fellow Pack wrestler
Samuel Ramos (R-Fr., Goleta, Calif.).
Ramos competed unattached and finished 2-2. He picked up a win by fall (4:14) in his first outing over Nolan Stanton from Wayne State and earned a 14-1 Maj. win over Rafael Serrano from CSU Wrestling Club.
Also in the Amateur 165 Bracket,
Mario Tafoya (So., Albuquerque, NM) earned two wins including a win by fall (4:01) against Michael Foster from Briar Cliff (Iowa). He followed that performance with a 9-3 decision over Jacob Vasquez of Cloud Country CC.
At 157 pounds in the Elite Bracket,
Alfredo Mendoza (Fr., Salinas, Calif.) ended his day with three wins including a win by fall (5:00) over New Mexico Highlands' Deklyn Miller and an 8-2 win over Hunter Gilmore from Chadron State.
Solomon Arnds-Volcin (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) won his first match of the season 7-2 over Wyatt Lidberg from UMary and was sent to the consolation side of the bracket after dropping a 4-1 decision against Chadron State's Logan Berger.
Arnds-Volcin earned his first win by fall (5:20) of the year and pinned Wayne State's Chance Sjulin.
Henry Sturn (So., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) earned two wins on the day. The first, a 5-4 decision over Riley Dean-Butt from Western Colorado. His second win came by Maj. 13-3 against a D-I opponent in Lane Catlin from Wyoming.
At 285,
Markel Nicholson (So., Brewton, Alabama) picked up one win by fall (1:13) over Wayne State's Anthony Scala and took home a SV-1 4-1 win over Jayden Berry from Cloud County CC.
