Men's Basketball Improves to 3-0 on Season, Posts Home Win Saturday Over Texas A&M-Kingsville

Pack's 3-0 Start is First Since 2014-15 Season

PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo men's basketball remained undefeated on Saturday afternoon following an impressive 87-55 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville at Massari Arena.
 
With the win, the ThunderWolves open the 2024-25 season 3-0 for the first time since the 2014-15 season, while TAMUK falls to 2-2. In addition, the Pack is one of two remaining undefeated teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference as MSU Denver is also 3-0 on the season.
 
The Pack shot 53 percent from the field, held a 47-30 edge on the glass and outscored the Javalinas 48-30 in the second half en route to posting its third win this season against a Lone Star Conference school.
 
Senior forward De'Shaun Cooper (Poway, Calif./Balboa School) paced three Pack players in double figures with 17 points, while fifth-year senior guard Brevin Walter (Las Vegas, Nev./South Dakota Mines) and senior guard Armon Muldrew (Perris, Calif./San Bernardino Valley) tallied 16 and 15 points respectively.
 
For the second straight game, the Pack never trailed in the contest and in 120 minutes this season, the Pack have trailed for just a total of two minutes and 53 seconds.
 
The Pack jumped out to an 8-0 lead just a little over three minutes into the contest as Cooper scored six of his game-high 18 points in the opening flurry. Following the Pack run, TAMUK responded with a 10-5 run over the next four-plus minutes to cut the Pack lead to 13-10.
 
Following the Javalinas' run, the Pack answered back with a 16-2 run to push out to a 29-12 lead with 6:16 left in the first half. The run was keyed by five points from junior guard Kesean Brazile (Victorville, Calif./West Hills Lemoore) and four points by Cooper.
 
TAMUK would close the opening half on a 13-10 run to cut the Pack's halftime lead to 39-25.
 
In the opening half, the Pack shot 46 percent from the field and 36 percent from the 3-point line, while holding TAMUK to 29 percent shooting from the field and 17 percent from the 3-point line.
 
The Pack would open the second half on a 14-7 run to turn its 14-point halftime lead to 53-32 with 14:04 left in the game. The run began with a lay-up by Muldrew and was capped by a Walter lay-up.
 
TAMUK used an 11-7 run over the next five minutes to pull within 60-43, but the Pack responded with a 19-6 run to extend its lead to 79-49 following a lay-up from junior guard Sam Howery (Colorado Springs, Colo./St. Mary's).
 
After the Javalinas scored four straight points to pull within 79-53 with 2:21 left in the game, the Pack used an 8-0 run keyed by back-to-back treys from redshirt sophomore guard Landen Dvorsky (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) and freshman guard Jordan Blair (Keller, Texas/Keller Central) and capped by two Bazile free throws to push its lead to 87-53 with 1:12 left in the game. The 34-point lead was the largest of the game for the Pack.
 
James Livingston capped the scoring with two free throws with 22 seconds remaining.
 
TAMUK, who fell 88-77 on Thursday night at MSU Denver, was paced offensively by 11 points from both Isaiah Payne and Livingston.
 
Junior forward Victor Lado (Louisville, Ky./Vincennes University) paced the Pack on the boards with nine, while freshman forward Jake Lafferty (Bruner, Mo./Sparta) had seven boards and Walter added six boards.
 
The Pack lost the turnover battle, 18-13 but dished out 18 assists on 30 made baskets as junior guard Denim Johnson (Omaha, Neb./Trinity Valley CC) had four in the game. TAMUK had 10 assists on 18 made baskets.
 
While the Pack shot 53 percent from the field and 36 percent from the 3-point, TAMUK shot 27 percent from the field and 21 percent from the 3-point line.
 
The Pack were also 19-for-24 (79 percent) at the free throw line, while TAMUK was 14-for-21 (67 percent) from the line in the contest.
 
CSU Pueblo will conclude its four-game homestand to open the 2004-25 with a 7 p.m. non-conference game on Thursday, Nov. 21 against Barclay College.
