Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 16 CSU Pueblo and Regis battle in 1-1 draw

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 31, 2024) - The No. 16 ranked Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team earned one conference point after battling Regis University to a 1-1 draw in a critical late season Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match on Thursday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

With the draw, CSU Pueblo has 19 conference points and remain one point behind the Rangers with two matches left in the regular season.

Jose Bustamante (Jr., Davie, Fla.) scored for the third game in a row during the 63' after the ThunderWolves went on a counterattack and good ball movement within the pitch from Jack Pascoe (Sr., Barry, Wales, England) and Tobi Osifodunrin (Sr., Brighton, Colo.), allowed Bustamante to find space receive a cross pass and able to get enough body on the ball for the one goal lead.

Playing in front of a good size crowd of fans and students sporting their best Halloween costumes, the top two teams in the RMAC did not disappoint. CSU Pueblo registered nine shots and two SOG led by Osifodunrin's three shots.

The Pack recorded the first shot on goal of the game in the 6' from Osifodunrin whose attempt went off the crossbar and Giancarlo Pretto (Sr., Lajeado Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil) booted the loose ball high and out of play for a Regis goal kick.

The Rangers earned their first corner minutes later and in the 15th minute, they fired a SOG and earned a corner which resulted in another SOG and one more corner. Both shots were saved by Pack goalkeeper Ruben Volkert (Gr., Baden-Württemberg, Germany).

In the first half, the Pack fired six shots and earned two corners. The Rangers made five first half shots and four SOG.

Entering the second period, the Pack earned another corner and another shot from Osifodunrin that went out top of the net.

CSU Pueblo's offense continued to pressure the Rangers and they recorded one more shot and corner all in the first ten minutes of the half.

Regis responded with back-to-back shots and Volkert made the biggest save of the game to that point and a rebounded shot sailed high resulting in another corner.

The Pack did well in clearing that attempt and after a substitution on defense, the ThunderWolves drove the ball down field and Bustamante found the back of the net.

In the 76th minute, CSU Pueblo midfielder Caio Oliveira (Sr., Espigao d'Oeste, Brazil) was handed a second yellow caution which converted to an instant red card and the ThunderWolves having to play a man down for the final near 15 minutes.

In the 79th minute, Regis started a streak of four corners and in the 87th minute, with possession on the far left side, Regis' Liam Corr tied the game after he hit a cross that landed just inside the far post to the surprise of the Pack defense.

Regis kept the pressure over the final 90 seconds and earned two more corners before the final buzzer sounded, ending in the 1-1 draw.

Volkert finished the game with five saves.

CSU Pueblo (11-3-2, 6-1-1 RMAC) will play the final home game of the regular season on Sunday and welcome South Dakota Mines for Senior Day starting at Noon at Gonzales Stadium.

After the game, CSU Pueblo Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees and his staff and players will honor 13 departing players who will end their careers at the end of the season.
