PUEBLO, Colo. (October 20, 2024) - The No. 7 ranked Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team suffered its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference loss of the season following a 1-0 defeat against Fort Lewis on Sunday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
In the game, CSU Pueblo registered 12 shot, led by three shots each from
Shjon Andrews (Gr., Longmont, Colo.) and
Jose Bustamante (Jr., Davie, Fla.). The duo combined for three of the Pack's five SOG.
Caio Oliveira (Sr., Espigao d'Oeste, Brazil) and
Tobi Osifodunrin (Sr., Brighton, Colo.) each fired one SOG.
With 29:41 left in the first half, the game was delayed due to lightning in the area and play resumed after a near 45-minute delay.
Fort Lewis scored its goal in the 17' off a corner kick and a centered ball that found the head of a diving Jakob Larson whose attempt went into the net.
The Pack's next best scoring chance came in the 26th minute, after a corner kick gave the ThunderWolves possession in their offensive zone and fired two shots back-to-back including a SOG from Osifodunrin.
At the break, FLC led 8-5 in shots and 5-3 in corners.
In the second half, the ThunderWolves increased the physicality to match the Skyhawks and earned another corner in just under four minutes and Oliveira managed a shot at the net that was again saved by FLC's Aidan Hartman.
Hartman made another saved in the 62' when Bustamante fired a shot and was saved by the Skyhawks keeper.
Andrews hit two of his three shots over the final twenty-minutes and fired two shots including an attempt that hit the crossbar and resulted in a corner for the ThunderWolves.
The Skyhawks defense did well in clamping down on the ThunderWolves attack and caused several turnovers and limited the ThunderWolves chances at the net over the final minutes of the game.
Pack goalkeeper
Ruben Volkert (Gr., Baden-Württemberg, Germany) made three saves against four SOG and nine total shots from FLC.
