CSU Pueblo Athletics Boosts Program Record 3.325 GPA for 2023 Fall Semester

76 Pack Student-Athletes Recorded 4.0 GPA's During Fall Semester

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo Athletics Department had a record setting 2023 fall semester in the classroom as the ThunderWolves' student-athletes posted an all-time program best 3.325 grade point average in the fall semester.

Among the department's 21 intercollegiate athletic teams, 18 of them recorded grade point averages over 3.00 for the fall semester. Once again, the women's volleyball team posted the highest overall team GPA in the department with a 3.772, while the men's track and field team had the highest team GPA for a CSU Pueblo men's athletic team with a 3.364.

Since 2018, the teams in the CSU Pueblo athletic department have continued to improve in the classroom each semester as in the fall semester of 2018, CSU Pueblo's teams had a combined team GPA of 3.035 as only 12 of the department's athletic teams recorded over a 3.0 GPA, but in the 2023 fall semester, Pack Athletics had 18 teams record a team GPA of 3.0 or better and the department posted an overall GPA of 3.325, which is change of 0.29 percent.

"We are very proud of the academic accomplishments of our student-athletes. The growth we have seen over the past six years has been profound. We can attribute this dramatic improvement to several factors," CSU Pueblo Vice President for Athletics and Strategic Partnerships Dr. Paul Plinske said. "First, our coaches have more scholarship resources to assist them in the recruitment of high caliber prospective student-athletes. Once on campus, our student-athletes have access to a robust tutorial services program that is funded through Vision 2028, one of our university's strategic initiatives. Above all, our coaches, staff, and student-athletes have invested a lot of time and hard work to make this accomplishment possible.

"Combining our academic accomplishments with our athletic success and community engagement, CSU Pueblo has become a premiere program in NCAA Division II athletics."

Along with boasting a 3.325 fall term GPA overall among the department's student-athletes, the ThunderWolves' also had 76 student-athletes during the fall semester record a perfect 4.0 GPA, while another 233 student-athletes recorded a GPA of 3.50 or better during the 2023 fall semester.
