Gould wins at 197, CSU Pueblo drops dual against No. 1 Central Oklahoma

PUEBLO, Colo. (January 27, 2024) - Colorado State University Pueblo senior wrestler Ben Gould (Canyon Country, Calif.) earned his second win in as many nights and the only individual win for the ThunderWolves against No. 1 Central Oklahoma, after scoring an 8-6 decision win over Emmanuel Skillings from No. 1 Central Oklahoma but the Bronchos were a tough match-up as they beat the ThunderWolves 40-3 on Saturday inside Massari Arena.

At 197, Gould took down his opponent Emmanuel Skillings by an 8-6 decision. Starting the dual, Skillings started fast and built a 3-1 lead after the first period and used another quick take down in the second period but Gould was able to record two escape points and was down 6-3 heading to the third period.

In the period, Gould earned a take down in the final minute and coupled with two stalling calls against Skillings, Gould was awarded two points to take an two-point lead as the buzzer sounded.

The dual began at 125 and Decker Milender (Fr., Superior, Mont.) lost by tech fall (15-0) against Garrett Steidley.

At 133, Peter Rolle defeated Brandon Bigler (So., Pacifica, Calif.) 9-4 and earned three team points.

Michael Atencio (So., Rye, Colo.) suffered a first period pin loss against No. 4 Dylan Lucas.

At 149 pounds, Anthony Nichols (R-Sr., Grand Coulee, Wash.) was shutout 7-0 by No. 10 ranked Dylan Brown.

Cyruss Meeks (Jr., Casper, Wyo.) had a strong outing on the mat and battled agaisnt No. 3 Gabe Johnson, falling 4-2 against the nationally ranked opponent. Meeks fought hard in the third period and try for a take down but was unable to make a move before the end of the period.

At 165, Elijah Valdez (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) had an 8-0 setback against UCO's Hunter Jump who entered the week ranked No. 9 in the latest NWCA National Rankings.

Anthony Desvigne defeated Tytus Coombs (R-So., Meeker, Colo.) 16-1 and earned five team points and in the next bout at 184, Donn Greer (So., Soledad, Calif.) was pinned at 6:19 against No. 5 Garrett Wells.

In the last match of the evening, Josiah Aldinger (Fr,. Falcon, Colo.) lost to the nations top wrestler at 285 pounds in UCO's Shawn Streck, falling by TF (20-5).

Up next, CSU Pueblo goes on the road next week and will battle Colorado Mesa on Feb. 2 starting at 6PM in Grand Junction, Colorado.
