TYLER, Tex. (September 2, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team finished its opening weekend at University of Texas at Tyler and ended in a 3-3 tie against the Patriots.
Gabriel Campora (Sr., Saltillo, Mexico) scored his second goal of the weekend along with goals by
Dylan Zavatini (Sr., Santa Catarina, Brazil) and
Ricardo Schroeder Jr. (Sr., Parana, Brazil).
"First off our hearts go out to UT Tyler Men's Soccer. We wish Sam a healthy recovery. For the match, we created a lot of chances today but very inconsistent in our overall performance," said Pack Head Coach
Oliver Twelvetrees. "It was extremely challenging conditions and we struggled to execute our game plan in the heat."
For a second straight match, the ThunderWolves out shot their opponent and made 17 shot attempts and held UT-Tyler to nine shots.
Campora led all players with four shots and the Pack offense earned six corners against zero for the home team.
During the 12th minute, the ThunderWolves took the ball on a counter attack into UTT territory and Campora was able to score on swift footwork past the defense for his second goal of the season.
The Patriots evened the score in the 22nd minute and went ahead 2-1 just over ten minutes later.
CSU Pueblo tied the game minutes before halftime when Zavatini scored a header goal to tie the game going into intermission.
In the second half, both teams went back and forth until the 80th minute when the home team went ahead 3-2.
The ThunderWolves scored the equalizer in the 82nd after Schroeder Jr. hit the back of the net past a diving goalkeeper.

Ruben Volkert (Fr., Baden-Württemberg, Germany) allowed three goals and faced nine shots.
Twelvetrees added, "One of the positives from the weekend is that Gabriel has 2 in 2 goals plus an assist. We will keep working hard and focusing on improving our play in all areas of the game ready for next weekend."
CSU Pueblo (1-0-1) remains on the road next week and travels to San Antonio on Thursday and takes on No. 9 St. Mary's. The Pack will wrap the four-game road trip next Saturday at St. Edward's.
