No. 15 ThunderWolves dominant at Sam Proal Invitational; Tenpenny earns medalist

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 19, 2023) - The No. 15 ranked Colorado State University Pueblo men's golf team earned its first team title of the fall after finishing in first place in dominating fashion and finished 31 strokes ahead of second place at the 2023 Sam Proal Invitational.

Sophomore Colt Tenpenny (Fulshear, Tex.) finished atop the leaderboard and ended 14-under par and had his best round during Tuesday's third round of action. Tenpenny carded scores of 69-67-66 over two days and ended with a total score of 202 which was six strokes ahead of teammate Archie Wyatt (So., Edinburgh, Scotland).

Tenpenny sank 36 pars and hit a tournament best 10-under on par fives through the 54-hole tournament.

The duo of Tenpenny and Wyatt finished tied with the most birdies in the field.

Wyatt ended the home tournament at even-par 72 for round three to go with his first two round scores of 74-62, finishing with a total of 208. During the second round on Monday, Wyatt set a new course record with his 10-under 62 score. During the round he finished with nine birdie shots and included one eagle shot on the par-5 4th.

Senior Jamie Roberts (Kinross, Scotland) finished T-3rd overall and registered a 7-under 209. Roberts shot a 4-under in round three to vault into the top 3.

He sank two eagle shots and earned 11 birdies while on the course.

Tyler Tyson (Jr., Arvada, Colo.) finished in 10th place overall and was even par through three rounds. Tyson registered 13 birdies and had his best round on Tuesday, hitting six birdie shots.

Freshman Paraic McGrath (Galway, Ireland) placed 24th and improved each of his scores as the tournament progressed. During the last round, McGrath shot a 66 to end his week at 6-over 222.

CSU Pueblo's B Team finished in 7th place as a team and was led by Jeffrey Nelson (Jr., Commerce City, Colo.) who ended T-17th after he carded a 3-over 219 tournament.

Conner Moberly (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) paced the B-squad during the final round Tuesday and shot a 6-under 66 to place him T-21st.

Rounding out the field, Callum Kenneally (Fr., Duns, Scotland) finished T-35 and Evan Smith (So., Pueblo, Colo.) ended in 45th place for the ThunderWolves.

CSU Pueblo next will compete at the RJGA South Central Regional Shootout on Sept. 25-26 in Ruidoso, N.M., hosted by Western New Mexico.
