Women's Golf Sits Tied for Ninth After Opening Round of RJGA Shootout at Estrella

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's golf team opened up play here Monday in the RJGA Shootout at Estrella held at the Golf Club of Estrella sitting in a tie for ninth place out of 14 teams at the event hosted by Western New Mexico University.

The ThunderWolves opened Monday's first round by shooting a 14-over par 302 for 18 holes to sit tied for ninth place with UT-Permian Basin. The Pack are nine shots behind first round leader, Cal State-LA, who shot a 5-over par 293 in the opening round. Entering Tuesday's final round, there are 10 teams within nine shot of first round leader, Cal State-LA.

Leading the way for the Pack in Monday's first round was junior Zoey Rodriguez (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo South), who carded an opening round of even-par 72 to sit in a three-way tie for seventh place overall. Rodriguez carded four birdies, four bogeys and 10 pars on her first round score card. She sits four shots behind first round leader Isabella Botero from MSU Denver, who shot an opening round score of 4-under par 68.

Botero leads by three shots over four players, who each shot 1-under par 71's to sit in a tie for second place. In fact, nine golfers in the field of 74 competitors shot even-par or better in Monday's opening round.

In addition to Rodriguez, senior Kylie Severin (Aurora, Colo./Vista Peak Prep) and freshman Lisa Ekberg (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Aranäsgymnasiet) each shot 3-over 75's to sit in an 11-way tie for 19th place.

The fourth counter for the Pack in the opening round was junior Anju Ogi (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West), who shot an 8-over par 80 to sit in a tie for 60th place.

CSU Pueblo's fifth and final golfer on Monday was sophomore Freya Constable (Edinburgh, Scotland/Boroughmuir), who shot an opening round 85 to sit in a tie for 72nd place.

The Pack will conclude play in the two-day, 36-hole event on Tuesday beginning at with foursomes at 7:30 a.m. They will be paired in the final round with Biola, UT-Permian Basin and Academy of Art.
