ThunderWolves score third round low 2-under Tuesday; finish third at The Writz at Mile High

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (September 12, 2023) - No. 15 Colorado State University Pueblo men's golf completed its first tournament of the fall season and finished third overall in a field of nine teams at The Writz at Mile High, played at Bear Creek Golf Club in Lakewood.

Tournament-host Colorado Christian won the team title with a +6 1086, followed by Colorado School of Mines who finished two strokes behind the Cougars.

CCU's Xavier Bighaus took home the individual medalist honor after he scored 4-under 212 including three strokes under par in round three. 

Tyler Tyson (Jr., Arvada, Colo.) ended the three-day tournament leading the Pack and finished in fifth place after posting a +1 217. During Tuesday's third round, Tyson shot a bogey-free 69 3-under coupled with scores of 76-72 in the first two rounds.

Tyson sank eight birdies and recorded an eagle shot during the second round on Monday.

Finishing one stroke behind and T-6th, Colt Tenpenny (So., Fulshear, Tex.) registered a 2-over 218, adding to his strong outing Tuesday with a 2-under 70. Tenpenny recorded four birdies during the first nine Tuesday, and eleven birdies overall.

Playing his final tournament at Bear Creek, Pack senior Jamie Roberts (Kinross, Scotland) shot a 68 in the final round and placed 17th overall. In three rounds, Roberts was 5-over 221 and successfully hit ten birdies.

Earning the T-20th position, Archie Wyatt (So., Edinburgh, Scotland) totaled six birdies en route to a +7 223 finish.

In his first collegiate tournament, Paraic McGrath (Fr., Galway, Ireland) placed T-24th and posted +10 226 to go along with his 12 birdies recorded.

Jeffrey Nelson (Jr., Commerce City, Colo.) ended T-39th and carded +15 231.

Playing as an individual, Pack freshman Callum Kenneally (Duns, Scotland) finished in 50th place and shot a +21 237 in his first collegiate outing.

CSU Pueblo will return to action at home next week and host the Sam Proal Invite, Sept. 18-19 at Walking Stick Golf Course.
