TOWN & COUNTRY, Mo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's lacrosse team returned to action here Saturday by suffering a hard-fought 12-5 setback to Maryville University at the Maryville Athletic Complex.
Saturday's game was the sixth this season for the Pack, all of which have been played on the road as the ThunderWolves fell to 0-6 on the year, while Maryville improved to 5-3 on the year.
The Pack will conclude its seven game road trip to open the 2023 season with a 5 p.m. MT game on Monday, March 20 in Quincy, Ill., against Quincy University.
In Saturday's game, the Pack goals from four different players, including two goals from freshman midfielder
Nathan Liderman (Bend, Ore./Summit). The two goals pushed Liderman's season total to six, which is second-most on the team.
The Pack were outshot, 58-20 in the game and committed 30 turnovers to 16 for Maryville.
Maryville jumped in front 1-0 in the opening 47 seconds thanks to a goal by Clayton Cerett, but the Pack would use an unassisted goal from graduate student goalkeeper
Ethan Ferrie (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) and a goal by Liderman that was assisted by junior midfielder
Kevin Gallagher (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View) to take a 2-1 lead nearly seven minutes into the game.
Two consecutive goals by Ethan Olson helped Maryville retake the lead at 3-2 after the opening 15 minutes of play.
The Saints would outscore the Pack, 4-1, in the second period to hold a 7-3 lead at the half. The Pack's lone goal in the period came from freshman midfielder
Lane Lessley (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) off an assist by freshman midfielder
Chris Easley (Southington, Conn./Weber) with 4:28 left in the period. Lessley's goal brought the Pack within 5-3.
Maryville would score four unanswered goals in the third period to take an 11-3 heading into the final period.
The Pack would use goals by Liderman and junior midfielder
Ezra Terry (Shreveport, La./Hendrix College) in the fourth period to outscore the Saints, 2-1, in the period to set the final margin.
Olson paced Maryville with three goals, while Cerett, Connor Kvaal and Reid Usrey each had two goals in the win.
Maryville also won the ground ball battle, 41-26 as Ferrie, senior midfielder
Turner Dirk (Strathmore, Alberta/Holy Trinity Academy) and junior defender Corey Healy (Keller, Texas/Keller) each had four ground balls to pace the Pack.
Maryville also won the face-off battle, 12-7 as Liderman was 7-for-19 in the game on face-offs, while Cooper George was 7-for-9 on face-offs to pace the Saints.
Ferrie played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pack and he finished with school-record tying 24 saves and he added four ground balls and a goal. The 24 saves bettered the old single game school mark of 23, which was set by Nick Richards at Lindenwood on March 20, 2018.
Jaxon Snyder played all 60 minutes in goal for Marvville and finished with seven saves, a ground ball and a caused turnover.
