PUEBLO, Colo. (November 30, 2023) - For a second season in a row, the Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team will compete in the NCAA Tournament Third Round and face-off against Midwestern State on Friday starting at 2 p.m. (MT) at Stang Park in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Setting the Stage
The Pack are riding a five-match win streak entering the week and includes three straight wins over ranked opponents.
Postseason Honors
CSU Pueblo has been rewarded for their efforts through the regular season and had five players chosen All-Region selections.
Shjon Andrews (Sr., Longmont, Colo.) and
Gabriel Campora (Sr., Saltillo, Mexico) were each named to the First Team for the second year in a row, while
Caio Oliveira (Sr., Espigao d'Oeste, Brazil) earned his first All-Region First Team selection.
Kenshin Uneo (Sr., Hyogo, Japan) and
Dylan Zavatini (Jr.,. Santa Catarina, Brazil) both were named to the Second Team.
Earlier in the month, Andrews, Uneo and Zavatini received recognition for their prowess on the pitch and in the classroom and were selected D2CCA Academic All-District picks.
Opponent Capsule
Midwestern State enters the week ranked No. 2 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll and received the top-seed in the South Central Region. In their second round match, the Mustangs defeated Fort Lewis 2-1 earning the right to host the ThunderWolves. Midwestern State's Mere Escobar was selected the D2CCA All-South Central Region Player of the Year. Escobar ranks among the top-five in the nation in points (47), goals (17) and assists (13).
Last Time On The Pitch
The ThunderWolves are back in action after posting a 2-1 win over Chico State last Saturday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium. The Wildcats entered the match at No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
Campora and
Jack Pascoe (Sr., Barry, Wales) were the goal scorers in the match that needed extra time to decide the outcome.
