COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (November 28, 2023) - The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) announced the list of 26 men's soccer student-athletes on the D2CCA All-Region Teams and Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team lands five on the list released Tuesday.
For a second straight season,
Shjon Andrews (Sr., Longmont, Colo.) and
Gabriel Campora (Sr., Saltillo, Mexico) were named to the first team and are joined by
Caio Oliveira (Sr., Espigao d'Oeste, Brazil) who earned his first all-region selection as a member of the Pack.
Earning second team honors,
Kenshin Uneo (Sr., Hyogo, Japan) and
Dylan Zavatini (Jr., Santa Catarina, Brazil) earn their first postseason honor after successful seasons on the pitch.
Midwestern State's Mere Escobar was selected the D2CCA All-South Central Region Player of the Year. Escobar ranks among the top-five in the nation in points (47), goals (17) and assists (13) and has helped lead the No. 1 seed Mustangs to the third round of the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament, where they are set to face-off against No. 4 seed CSU Pueblo on Friday, December 1 at 2 p.m. (MT) in Wichita Falls, Texas.
ThunderWolves recap
Andrews repeated this year as RMAC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the ThunderWolves back line to an impressive 13 shutouts in 22 matches so far in 2023. He has played in 21 matches and added in three goals and three assists for nine points. Behind his efforts, the Pack has allowed just 16 goals while limiting opponents to 5.9 shots per contest.
Campora has led an offense that has scored 41 goals in 22 games this year. He led the RMAC in goals this year and has totaled 39 points, scoring 18 goals and 3 assists. He has eight game-winning goals on the year. Campora was a perfect 5-for-5 in PKs. His 18 goals scored so far this season puts him 4th in the nation.
Oliveira earns first team honors after he finished the regular season with the most assists in the RMAC. Through 22 games played, Oliveira has 11 assists and one goal scored. His assist total puts him 11th in the nation.
Uneo was been a menace at midfield in 22 games played and over 1,600 minutes on the pitch. He added an assist on offense and defensively helped limit opponents to 0.73 goals per game and .124 shot percentage.
Zavatini is the Pack's second outside back defender to earn accolades. A second team honoree, Zavatini scored two goals and stood tall against top players in the league and region in 21 matches played and 1,400 minutes on the pitch.
Athletic communication professionals from the NCAA Division II South Central Region schools and conferences selected the D2CCA all-region teams. The process concludes with the All-American selections that will be announced in December.
