ThunderWolves prepare for clash with Chico State in NCAA Second Round

PUEBLO, Colo. (November 18, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team will play its second straight NCAA Second Round match at the friendly confines of Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium and welcome Chico State for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The ThunderWolves, the 4-seed in the South Central Region hosts the 5-seeded Wildcats. The match marks the first meeting between CSU Pueblo and Chico State.

Thanks to Pepsi, the first 500 students from either CSU Pueblo or Chico State with a valid student ID will be allowed free admission.

How It Happened
CSU Pueblo received its third straight berth to the NCAA Tournament after scoring a 2-0 win in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Championship over Fort Lewis. The Pack maintains a 15-4-2 record and are currently on a four-match win streak and includes three consecutive clean sheet victories in the RMAC Tournament.

The ThunderWolves are led offensively by Gabriel Campora (Sr., Saltillo, Mexico) with 37 points, scoring 17 goals and three assists in 21 games played. As a team, 13 players have scored at least one goal.

Caio Oliveira (Sr., Espigao d'Oeste, Brazil) has earned 11 assists on the year.

Defensively, the ThunderWolves have been strong all season and have allowed 15 goals and have held opponents to 5.8 shots per game and less than one goal per contest.

CSU Pueblo is 6-1-1 at home. This season, the Pack has recorded a season-long six game win streak from Sept. 24 thru Oct. 12.

Chico State comes to Pueblo with a 11-1-7 record and are led by Miles Rice with eight goals on the year and 19 total points.

Adrian Fontanelli leads Chico with eight assists.

The Wildcats have given up eleven goals in 19 games this season and have posted a 4-1-2 record on the road. 

Chico lost in the first round of the CCAA Tournament, playing Cal State San Marcos to a 1-1 draw through regulation and fell 5-4 in penalties.

Chico started the season with a 13-match unbeaten streak including winning eight in a row from Aug. 31-Sept. 29.
