Women's Swimming & Diving Splits Home Tri-Dual Meet With Nebraska-Kearney and Western Colorado

Pack Wins Five Individual Events, One Relay Event at Two-Day Dual Meet

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's swimming and diving team split a tri-dual meet here this weekend with Western Colorado and University of Nebraska-Kearney held at the Sam Jones Aquatic Center on the CSU Pueblo campus.
 
In the tri-dual meet that was held on both Friday and Saturday, the ThunderWolves collected a 244-164 win over UNK and suffered a 129-127 setback to Western Colorado.
 
At the two-day tri-dual meet, the Pack competed in 21 events and earned five individual wins and won one of the four relays that were contested over the two days. In addition, the Pack set two new pool records in the 800 freestyle relay and 200 breaststroke.
 
The first individual event win for the Pack came in the 400 IM as Laci Denn (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Mainland Regional) recorded a first-time place time of 4:52.00. Western's Sophia del Rosario was second with a time of 4:57.74.
 
CSU Pueblo's second event win in the next event following the 400 IM as freshman Olivia Dannhaus (Sheridan, Wyo./Sheridan) posted a first time of 1:08.04. Western's Ella Fries was second in the event with a time of 1:09.89. In addition to Dannhaus, freshman Montana Freeman (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School) was eighth with a time 1:13.36.
 
The third individual event came in the 200 IM as Dannhaus captured first place as touched the wall in a time of 2:16.61. Along with Dannhaus, sophomore Carla Sanchez Guareno (Banyeres del Penedes, Spain/Institut de L'Aboc).
 
The Pack's fourth individual win came in the 100 backstroke as Sanchez Guareno was first with a time of 1:02.60.
 
CSU Pueblo final individual event win came in the 200 breaststoke as Dannhaus set a pool record with a time of 2:29.66. It bettered the old pool mark of 2:29.83 set by junior Paola Yolando C Wu (San Pedro Sula, Hondruas/University of Indianapolis) set at last weekend's double-dual with Adams State and Mines.
 
The Pack was also first in the 800 freestyle relay as they recorded a pool record time of 8:20.51 to win by nearly eight seconds over Western Colorado, who posted a time of 8:28.19. The members of the 800 freestyle relay team were sophomore Aleksandra Dutkowiak (Wroclaw, Poland/SMS Wroclaw), Sanchez Guareno, Dannhaus and Denn.
 
CSU Pueblo was also second in the other three relays as they placed second in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:53.62, while also placing second in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:10.53 and second in the 200-freestyle relay with a time of 1:45.90.
 
The members of the 200 medley relay team were freshman Margaret Laborde Lagrave (Sacramento, Calif./Saint Francis), Dannhaus, Freeman and Dutkowiak, while the members of the 400 medley relay team were Sanchez Guareno, Dannhaus, Freeman and Dutkowiak and the members of the 200 freestyle relay were Freeman, Lagrave, junior Markina Evdokimoff (Joshua Tree, Calif./Yucca Valley) and Dutkowiak.
 
Along with winning five individual events, the Pack placed in the Top 3 in six other events over the two days.
 
In the 1,650 freestyle, Denn was third with a time of 19:01.10 and Evdokimoff was seventh with a time of 21:16.04.
 
Freshman Abigail Boyle (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) was third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:19.65. In addition to Boyle, Lagrove was fifth with a time of 2:20.73 and freshman McKenna Schilling (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonny Lake) was seventh with a time of 2:22.37.
 
In the 100 IM, Sanchez Guareno was second with time of 1:03.96, while Lagrave was fourth with a time of 1:07.83.
 
Denn posted third place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:01.60, while Evdokimoff was sixth with a time of 2:12.01 and Schilling was eighth with a time of 2:16.98.
 
Sanchez Gallardo and junior Nalani Wess (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock) were second and third in the 200 butterfly with times of 2:19.65 and 2:25.42 respectively.
 
Denn, Evdokimoff and Wess went second, fourth and fifth in the 500 freestyle with times of 5:28.85, 5:58.36 and 6:03.15 respectively.
 
At the meet, the Pack won 18 of 21 events against UNK and six of 21 events against Western Colorado.
 
The Pack will return to pool on Nov. 3-4 as they compete at the UNK Invitational held at Kearney High School in Kearney, Neb.
