Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 5 ThunderWolves take down Grizzlies

ALAMOSA, Colo. (October 12, 2023) - The No. 5 ranked Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team pushed its win streak to six games after a 4-0 shutout win on the road Thursday at Adams State. With the win, the ThunderWolves remain perfect in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play and hold a 5-0 conference record.

In the match, four different players scored for the Pack. Gabriel Campora (Sr., Saltillo, Mexico), Ricardo Schroeder Jr., (Sr., Parana Brazil), Joseph Baston (Sr., Newport, Wales) and Reggie Nicolas (Sr., Palm Bay, Fla.) all found the back of the net.

The ThunderWolves had arguably their best outing defensively and allowed no shots in the entire match and offensively, CSU Pueblo fired 26 shots led by five from Jack Pascoe (Sr., Barry, Wales) and four each from Campora and Schroeder Jr.

CSU Pueblo Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees was happy with his team's effort during today's match. "The lads played well today. It was difficult to break down Adams but we were able to raise our standards in the second half and get the goals we needed."

In the first half, the Pack registered 15 shots and earned seven corner kicks but went into halftime with no shots finding the back of the net.

The start of period two had the ThunderWolves continue to battle the winds on the pitch and slowly began to create better chances at the net.

The ThunderWolves first found the net during the 53' when Campora stepped in to take his four penalty kick try of the season and was able to hit the lower right side of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Moments later, Campora found the ball on the top of the box and fed a pass out wide to Schroeder Jr. and he hit a shot across the net and past the diving goalkeeper.

The scoring continued for the Pack in the 83rd minute when Sam Bayly (Jr., Lincolnshire, England), along with Baston pressured the ball and caused a turnover in the attacking third and Baston placed one in the back of the net for his second goal this season.

"Joe Baston made a big impact in teh second half scoring and making a goal with his excellent movement of the ball," said Twelvetrees.

The ThunderWolves drew another foul inside the box with 1:12 left in the match and Nicolas stepped in and scored his first of the year.

Pack freshman goalkeeper Ruben Volkert (Baden-Württemberg, Germany) earned the shutout and was able to stand tall throughout the match and faced no shots.

CSU Pueblo (11-1-1, 5-0 RMAC) will next travel and play Sunday at Fort Lewis. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Dirks Field in Durango.
