ThunderWolves sweep at Tracy Borah Duals

GUNNISON, Colo. (January 7, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo wrestling team went back into Western Colorado's Mountaineer Field House on Saturday and competed at the Tracy Borah Duals, coming away with three victories, scoring wins over Colorado Mesa, Minot State and Findlay.

On the day, Dominick Castro, Michael Atencio, Conor Goucher and Cameron Nesbitt each went 3-0 in their outings to pace the ThunderWolves. As a team, CSU Pueblo won 21 of 30 matches on the day.

Colorado Mesa Recap
Against their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe-CMU, the ThunderWolves recorded two wins by fall in back-to-back matches at 141 and 149. In the 141 pound match, Atencio pinned his opponent John Masopust at 4:17.

At 149 pounds, Goucher scored a 16-1 tech fall win over CMU's Kaden Hine.

In the 157 lb. bout, Cyruss Meeks notched an 11-4 decision against John Finnegan and in the next match at 165 pounds, Elijah Valdez scored a win by forfeit.

The ThunderWolves went 2-2 over the final four matches including a pair of 3-1 wins by Nesbitt over Edward Nelson and Ben Gould defeating Tyler Doyle to seal the dual win.

Minot State Recap
Against the Beavers of Minot State, CSU Pueblo scored three wins by fall with Atencio and Goucher scoring six team points with wins at 5:57 against Ethan Wonser and at 0:44 over Noah Segura, respectively.

Castro netted his first win at 125 pounds by fall at 1:42 over Oscar Nellis.

In back-to-back matches, CSU Pueblo scored two 5-3 wins at 174- and 184-pounds. Tytus Coombs picked up his win over Brody Mohr and Nesbitt was victorious against Cayden White.

At 285-pounds, Jayson Davis won by injury forfeit at 3:29.

Findlay Recap
In the final dual of the afternoon, CSU Pueblo again put their foot on the gas pedal from the start and jumped to a 6-0 lead following a pin fall win by Castro at 0:28 over Findlay's Nicholas Korhorn.

At 141 pounds, Atencio scored another win by fall at 2:54 over Cade Cass and started a streak of four consecutive wins by fall and seven in a row overall for the ThunderWolves.

Goucher (1:20) over Mason Kleinberg, Meeks (5:18) against Chase Moore and Valdez over Gary Nilson (1:28) accounted 24 team points for the Pack.

The streak continued at 174 when Coombs held on for an 8-7 win against Kenny Snyder.

In the 197 pound matchup, Dominic Robles defeated Jacob Kowalski 32-21 in a major decision win.

CSU Pueblo will be back in action next Sunday, January 15 at Central Oklahoma.
