GUNNISON, Colo. (January 5, 2022) - The grapplers of Colorado State University Pueblo wrestling will hit the mats for the first time in 2023 when they travel to compete at the Western Colorado Open on Friday and the Tracy Borah Duals on Saturday inside Western's Mountaineer Field House.
The ThunderWolves finished a strong fall season and have four wrestlers with double-digit wins.
Cyruss Meeks and
Ben Gould both sit with a 12-3 record,
Dominick Castro and
Tytus Coombs each have 11 and 10 wins, respectively.
CSU Pueblo holds a 3-1 overall record and 1-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition following a 39-6 win against San Francisco State on December 17 at the Desert Duals in Phoenix.
On the mat, the Pack have been guided by Meeks who has recorded 105 match points so far this season. Coombs is second on the team with 92 match points, followed by
Aleksander Gunn with 86 match points.
Castro leads with six wins by fall and seven players have at least one win by major decision.
This week, the Pack will send into competition a full squad to compete Friday at the Western Open, the all day event will begin at 9 a.m.Â
Saturday, at the Tracy Borah Duals, the ThunderWolves have three duals on the docket starting at 9 a.m. against RMAC foe-Colorado Mesa.
In the second dual, the ThunderWolves face-off against Minot State at 10:30 a.m. and the day will conclude at 1 p.m. with a match against Findlay.
