PUEBLO, Colo. (Sept. 7, 2022) - The No. 25 Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team lost a hard fought match against St. Mary's University falling 2-1 Wednesday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
The ThunderWolves received a goal from
Shjon Andrews in the 75th minute to put the Pack ahead 1-0 in the second half.
Less than ten minutes after CSU Pueblo broke the stale mate, St. Mary's scored two goals in less than two minutes of action to take the 2-1 lead.
CSU Pueblo recorded five shots in the match and earned five corner kicks.
Through the first half, CSU Pueblo led both teams in shots and recorded four corner kicks.
The second half displayed the ThunderWolves being the first to the ball and the offense created numerous chances that was defended by the Rattlers.
More than halfway through the period, CSU Pueblo was given a free kick taken by
Kenshin Uneo who dished in the ball high and above the defense that allowed Andrews to connect on a header shot that found the back of the net.
Less than ten minutes later, St. Mary's evened the score after they got a free kick in ThunderWolves territory and was able to find the back of the net.
Moments later, SMU again got possession deep in CSU Pueblo territory and after two shots that hit the post and the second was knocked down by Pack goalkeeper
Nils Roth, the Rattlers were successful on the third attempt to take a one goal lead.
With less than ten minutes left in regulation, the ThunderWolves offensive attack was defended well as they were unable to score the equalizer and opened the home portion of the schedule with a loss in front of the home crowd.
CSU Pueblo (3-2) will finish off the weekend with a nonconference matchup against Lubbock Christian on Friday starting at 7 p.m. at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
