ALLENDALE, Mich. (May 28, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo track and field programs earned one individual national title as the men finish 12th and the women 22nd at the 2022 NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Nothing was going to stop Yasmine Hernandez (Gr., Johnstown, Colo.) from earning her national title, and she did just that.

Hernandez ended her career with the Pack with a new program record in the 1500-meter run and a first-place finish in the event with a time of 4:15.72. Hernandez is now No. 6 in meet history and the seventh fastest time in DII history.

Teammate Hailey Streff (Sr., Madison, S.D.) was not far behind Hernandez to run the fourth fastest time in program history with a time of 4:22.58 to place seventh overall.

In the 800-meter run for the men, Nathan Hood (Sr., St. Davids, Grenada) gave a strong push in the last 100 meters to finish fourth overall with a time of 1:51.68.

A late push was not enough for Reece Sharman-Newell (Fr.) who came in to the event with the fastest time during the season. The freshman found himself too far behind the leaders in the last 200 meters of the race to finish fifth with a time of 1:52.04.

Right behind Sharman-Newell was Kaleb Tipton (So., Lawton, Okla.) who finished in seventh place with a time of 1:53.38.

The duo in the ring of Nate Miller (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Justin Jenks (Jr., Helena, Mont.) had a strong outing in the shot put where the two finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Miller threw for a mark of 18.67 meters, which he threw on his second attempt of the day before fouling his final four throws.

Jenks found himself stuck in sixth place and used his 5th attempt of the day to snag a mark of 18.58 meters.

Also, in her final meet with the Pack, senior Jenna McKinley (Sr., Mosca, Colo.) finished 14th overall in the shot put with a mark of 14.17 meters and the sixth farthest throw in program history.

The Hood, Sharman-Newell, Tyrell Smith (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Carl Schmidt (So., Wiesbaden, Germany) 4x400-meter relay team ran its fastest time of the season and the third fastest time in program history with a time of 3:09.69 to finish in eighth place.

Pittsburg State claimed the team title on the men's side with 70 points while West Texas A&M claimed the women's title with 77 points.
