PUEBLO, Colo. (March 27, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Spank Blasing Invite where the teams totaled for three school records and eight NCAA qualifying performances.
The women's side was led
Yasmine Hernandez (Gr., Johnstown, Colo.) who snagged a pair of first-place finishes in the 800-meter dash and 4x400-meter relay. Hernandez started her day by crossing the line in 2:08.21 which places her second in school history and first in the NCAA provisional qualifying list this season. Hernandez then anchored the 4x400m relay team, which consisted of
Taylor Holland (Fr., Alamosa, Colo.),
Hailey Streff (Sr., Madison, S.D.), and
Helen Braybrook (Fr.), as the squad took first-place with a time of 3:52.18. The time also places them ninth in school history.
Braybrook also tabbed a third-place finish for the Pack in the 800-meter run where she finished with a time of 2:11.41.
Streff also ran in the 1500-meter run where she tabbed a third-place finish with a time of 4:35.16, which sits her sixth in the NCAA list this season.
Claire Pauley (Jr., Arvada, Colo.) had a strong performance in her 5,000-meter run as she finished in fourth-place with a time of 18:22.60.
Crystal Armijo (Fr.) also ran in the 5,000-meter race where she finished with a time of 19:45.36.
In the 400-meter dash, the ThunderWolves had
Emily Dibonas (So., Thorton, Colo.) and
Erin Case (So., Parker, Colo.) who finished with a time of 1:02.49 and 1:02.68, respectively, while Dibonas,
Mikayla Jones (Fr., Aurora, Colo.),
Lainee Vujcich (Fr.), and
Maddie Fornstrom (Fr., Pine Bluffs, Wyo.) ran in the 200-meter dash for the Pack. Dibonas finished with a time of 26.79, Jones in 27.06, Vujcich in 28.87, and Fornstrom in 28.94 seconds. Vujcich also finished the 100-meter dash in 13.679 seconds.
In the field events, Jones snagged a third-place finish in the high jump where she posted a mar of 1.60 meters which ties her for tenth in school history and also jumped 10.93 meters in the triple jump.
Heather Graham (Sr., Hugo, Colo.) finished tenth in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.67 meters while
Jenna McKinley (Sr., Mosca, Colo.) threw for a mark of 43.24 meters.
Elizabeth James (Fr.) threw 35.48 in the hammer and 33.44 meters in the discus. McKinley snagged a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 13.04 meters and Graham seventh at 12.87 meters. McKinley now sits seventh in school history with Graham snagging ninth.
The men had stellar performances both on the track and in the field where the team posted six NCAA provisional qualifying times or marks.
Matthew Roberds (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) started the day off in style for the Pack where the sophomore finished in first-place in the 10,000-meter run after crossing the line in 32:05.43, which places him tenth in school history.
Lucas Westbrook (So., Loveland, Colo.) finished in third place with a time of 32:23.01 and
Ritchie Roberds (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished seventh with a time of 32:36.18.
Konrad Raum (Fr.) also ran in the 10k where he finished in 35:10.58.
Tyrell Smith (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) had himself a day by smashing two program records and posting two NCAA provisional qualifying times. Smith finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.42 and second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.05. Smith is eighth in the 100-meter and sixth in the 200-meter in the NCAA this season.
Nigel Mitchell (So., Red Banks, N.J.) tabbed a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.67 (second school history) while earning third in the 200-meter dash. Smiths' time of 21.15 places him third in school history and ninth in the NCAA provisional qualifying list this season.
Andrew Cook (So., Tucson, Ariz.) finished the 100-meter dash in 10.89 seconds and the 200m in 22.24 seconds.
Reece Sharman-Newell (Fr.) finished second in the 800-meter dash after posting the fastest time in the NCAA this season at 1:47.16 and the second fastest time in school history. Sharman-Newell lost to CSU Pueblo alum Thomas Staines who owns the school record in the 800-meter dash and posted the second fastest time in the 800-meter dash over the weekend.
Nathan Hood (Sr., St. Davids, Grenada) posted a NCAA qualifying time (9th) in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:51.84, which places him with the second fastest time in school history.
Kaleb Tipton (So., Lawton, Okla.) finished in eighth in the 800m with a time of 1:54.10 and
Jack Dickson (Fr.) in 1:55.92.
Carl Schmidt (So., Wiesbaden, Germany) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.59 and teammate
Nathaniel Richardson (Fr.) finished eighth with a time of 50.17.
Terrel Johnson (So., Fountain, Colo.) also inked his name in the record books with a time of 15.82 in the 110-meter hurdles and now sits eighth in school history.
Cole Munoz (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished the 5,000-meter run in 15:06.82 while
Daniel Beam (Fr.) and
Patrick Scoggins (Sr., Rangely, Colo.) finished the 1500-meter run in 4:07.61 and 4:13.40, respectively.
The ThunderWolves had two teams in the 4x400-meter relay races where Smith, Sharman-Newell, Schmidt, and Hood placed second behind NCAA Division 1 Colorado State with a time of 3:12.87 which places them with the fourth fastest time in the NCAA D2 this season. Johnson, Dickson, Tipton, and Richardson ran with the second squad and finished with a time of 3:23. 74.
Justin Jenks (Jr., Helena, Mont.) and
Nate Miller (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the field in the shot put where Jenks placed first and Miller second. Jenks threw for a mark of 18.94 meters while Miller threw for a mark of 18.83 meters. The duo currently leads the NCAA provisional list this season after their performances last week at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Open hosted by CSU Pueblo.
Miller snagged a fourth-place finish in the discus with a mark of 50.53 meters and sixth in the hammer with a mark of 53.31. Miller now holds the school record in the hammer throw and is second in school history in the discus. Jenks finished seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.18 meters for the fifth farthest throw in school history.
Lucas Moran (Fr.) finished with a mark of 39.66 meters in the hammer and 12.65 meters in the shot put.
David Parker (Fr.) threw for a mark of 43.33 meters in the discus.
The ThunderWolves will hit the road next weekend and travel to Grand Junction, Colo. to compete in the Mavericks Multi & Open on April 1st and 2nd.
