PUEBLO, Colo. (March 20, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2022 outdoor season as the teams hosted the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird over the weekend at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.
Yasmine Hernandez (Gr., Johnstown, Colo.) started her 2022 outdoor campaign with a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash after crossing the line in 56.59 seconds while
Hailey Streff (Sr., Madison, S.D.) was close behind with a time of 56.94 seconds and a third-place finish.
Erin Case (So., Parker, Colo.) ran for a time of 1:02.02
Helen Braybrook also tabbed a first-place finish for the ThunderWolves as the freshman ran for a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:11.12 in the 800-meter dash and
Taylor Holland (Fr., Alamosa, Colo.) finished in ninth with a time of 2:19.60.
Claire Pauley (Jr., Arvada, Colo.) and
Margot Thomas-Gatel (Fr., Chapet, France) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 1500-meter run as Paley ran for a time of 4:57.11 and Margot-Gatel for a time of 4:58.22. In the 5,000-meter run,
Crystal Armijo (Fr.) finished tenth and ran for a time of 19:02.32.
The Pack finished second in the 4x400-meter relay with Holland, Braybrook, Streff, and Hernandez crossing the line in 3:54.21.
Lainee Vujcich (Fr.) finished the 60-meter dash in 13.84 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 28.95 seconds and
Emily Dibonas (So., Thornton, Colo.) ran for a time of 1:12.21 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Mikayla Jones (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) ran for a time of 27.33 seconds in the 200-meters dash and jumped 1.55 meters in the high jump and 10.99 meters in the triple jump while teammate
Gabrielle Janes (Fr.) finished the 200 in 30.76 seconds.
Jenna McKinley (Sr., Mosca, Colo.) earned herself a first-place finish with a provisional qualifying toss of 14.28 meters while teammate
Heather Graham (Sr., Hugo, Colo.) finished fifth with a mark of 12.62 meters. McKinley also tabbed a third-place finish in the discus with a mark of 42.24 meters and Graham finished in seventh with a toss of 38.18 meters.
Graham tabbed a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw while McKinley finished sixth at 43.83 meters.
Teammate
Elizabeth James (Fr., Castle Rock, Colo.) threw 8.64 meters in the shot put, 34.55 meters in the discus., and 33.04 meters in the hammer throw.
For the men,
Nigel Mitchell (So., Red Bank, N.J.) ran away with the 200-meter dash after finishing in 21.23 seconds and 0.08 seconds faster than the next competitor and a first-place finsih and
Andrew Cook (So., Tucson, Ariz.) finished ninth in the 60-meter dash after crossing in 11.19 seconds.
Carl Schmidt (So., Wiesbaden, Germany) also tabbed a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles after crossing the line in 14.36 seconds. Schmidt also tabbed a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.31 seconds.
Terrel Johnson (So. Fountain, Colo.) finished seventh in the 110-hurdles in a time of 15.90 seconds and
Nathaniel Richardson (Fr.) finished eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 22.53 seconds.
Tyrell Smith (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.13 seconds, which places him on the NCAA provisional qualifying list. Teammate
Kaleb Tipton (So., Lawton, Colo.) tabbed a third-place finish in a tough 800-meter dash with a provisional qualifying time of 1:51.43.
Reece Sharman-Newell (Fr.) also earned a second-place finish in the 1500-meter run where the freshman posted provisional qualifying time of 3:48.57. Also in the 1500-meter run was
Cole Munoz (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) 4:09.78,
Nathan Hood (Sr., St. Davids, Grenada) 4:10.67,
Jack Dickson (Fr.) 4:10.93, and
Patrick Scoggins (Sr., Rangely, Colo.) 4:11.82.
In the 5,000-meter run,
Matthew Roberds (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) posted a 15:17.18,
Lucas Moran (Fr.) a 15:21.40,
Ritchie Roberds (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) a 15:38.03,
Daniel Beam (Fr.) a 15:47.75, and
Konrad Raum (Fr.) a 17:09.01.
The ThunderWolves ran two squads in the 4x400 with the first team consisting of Schmidt, Sharman-Newell, Dickson, and Smith as they placed first with a time of 3:15.55. Team two consisted of Richardson, Hood, Tipton and Johnson as they crossed the line in 3:23.67 for a second-place finish.
Over in the throws
Justin Jenks (Fr., Helena, Mont.) and
Nate Miller (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) dominated their way to the top two performances in the shot put and also lead the national provisional qualifying list. Jenks threw for a mark of 19.18 meters while Miller threw for a mark of 19.08 meters. In the discus, Miller tabbed a third-place finish and a provisional qualifying mark of 50.76 meters while Jenks finished eleventh with a mark of 41.42 meters.
The duo finished third and fourth in the hammer throw as Miller tossed for a mark of 51.67 meters and Jenks threw 51.48 meters.
Moran tossed a mark of 12.74 meters in the discus and
David Parker (Fr.) threw 12.69 meters in the shot put and a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 43.94 meters.
