Women 11th, Men 13th at 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships

PITTSBURG, Kan. (March 12, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's squad was crowned the gold medal in the distance medley relay as the women finish 11th and men finish 13th at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships.
 
Yasmine Hernandez (Gr., Johnstown, Colo.), Helen Braybrook (Fr.), Taylor Holland (Fr., Alamosa, Colo.), and Hailey Streff (Sr., Madison, S.D.) dominated the women's distance medley relay race from start to finish as the quartet was crowned national champions after crossing the line in 11:23.21 on Friday evening. Streff took the lead for the ThunderWolves on the first leg and the squad never gave up that lead.
 
Jack Dickson (Fr.), Carl Schmidt (So., Wiesbaden, Germany), Reece Sharman-Newell (Fr.), and Nikolaus Franzmair (Fr.) claimed 7th place in the men's distance medley relay with a time of 9:41.02.
 
Both the women's and the men's DMR squads set new program records for the ThunderWolves.
 
Nate Miller (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Justin Jenks (Fr., Helena, Mont.) continued their reign as Miller placed second and Jenks placed third in the shot put. Miller marked his way into the final heat on his third throw with a mark of 17.71 meters and in seventh place before tossing his farthest mark of the day on his next throw at 18.91 meters.
 
Jenks threw his farthest throw of the day on his second toss and went into the finals in second place at 18.73 meters.
 
Jenna McKinley (Sr., Mosca, Colo.) tabbed a sixth-place finish in the shot put after going into the finals in seventh place. McKinley jumped up a position on her final toss of the day with a mark of 14.96 meters and marks the third farthest throw in program history.
 
Teammate Katherine Higgins (Fr., Castle Rock, Colo.) finished 11th with a mark of 14.20 meters.
 
Hernandez capped off the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championship meet for the ThunderWolves with a third-place finish in the 800-meter dash after crossing the line in 2:05.84. The time sets a new program record for CSU Pueblo.
 
Streff set a new personal-record and claimed a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:09.01 and is the third fastest time in program history.
 
The ThunderWolves begin the 2022 outdoor season and will be back at home for the next two weekends as the teams host the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird on March 18th and 19th and the Spank Blasing Invite on March 25th and 26th at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.
