ST. LOUIS, Mo. (March 11, 2022) - Colorado State University Pueblo senior wrestler Ruben Garcia (Selma, Calif.) ended his Pack career after dropping two matches at the 2022 NCAA Championships on Friday.

Garcia ends his season with a 19-11 record.

In his first match John Dean of Belmont Abbey, Garcia recorded four escape points, three coming in the third period in an 11-4 defeat. Trailing 5-1 going into the third period, Garcia chose to start on bottom and escaped under thirty seconds into the action. Dean earned a takedown that Garcia was able to escape from and another takedown and escape capped the scoring. Garcia earned a bonus point after a strong riding second period.

Looking to bounce back on the backside in his second match, Garcia was pitted against Leo Mushinsky from University of Mary.

In the match, Garcia found himself down 6-0 after one period. During the second period, the choice was deferred to Garcia who selected to start on bottom. Garcia scored a two-point reversal to get on the scoreboard just ten seconds into the period and would continue adding to his riding time for the duration of the period.

Starting the final period, Mushinsky chose neutral and Garcia was able to earn another takedown and realizing his position, he let Mushinsky escape and started up his offense. Trailing by two points with less than thirty seconds remaining, Garcia was unable to score another takedown and fell 7-5 including a one-point bonus riding point.
