GOLDEN, Colo. (Feb. 6, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women's track and field team put up more strong performances as more program records were shattered for a second straight weekend for the squads at the Mines Winter Classic on Friday and Saturday.
The women's team was led by
Mikayla Jones (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) and
Claire Pauley (Jr., Arvada, Colo.) who both set a new program record in the high jump and 5,000-meter run, respectively.
Jones cleared 1.50, 1.55, and 1.60 meters on her first attempts before clearing 1.63 meters on her second attempt and setting the program record for the Pack at 1.66 meters, also on her second jump, while Pauley claimed first place and crossed the line in 18:05.16, which converts to a 17:20.42 and now sits first in CSU Pueblo top 10 performance list and 23rd on the NCAA provisional list this season.
Helen Braybrook (Fr.) and
Taylor Holland (Fr., Alamosa, Colo.) had some strong performances in the 800-meter run as Braybrook finished 5th after crossing the line in 2:19.96 and Holland set a new personal-record after finishing seventh with a time of 2:20.64 while teammate
Erin Case (So., Parker, Colo.) finished seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.11.
The men's team went stacked into the 5,000-meter run as
Cole Munoz (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
Matthew Roberds (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) claimed first and second in the event. Munoz crossed the line in 15:20.23 while Roberds finished slightly behind with a time of 15:23.70. The Pack then claimed sixth, seventh, and eighth place finishes from
Kaleb Beloy (Fr., Anchorage, Alaska),
Lucas Westbrook (So., Loveland, Colo.), and
Ritchie Roberds (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) as they finished the race in 15:47.32, 15:51.00, and 15:54.13, respectively.
Meanwhile,
Nathaniel Richardson (Fr.) was busy warming up for the 400-meter dash where the freshman set a new PR and finished fifth overall with a time of 53.22 seconds and
Andrew Cook (So., Tucson, Ariz.) claimed fourth place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.10 seconds.
Carl Schmidt (So., Wiesbaden, Germany) looked to do some fine tuning in the 60-meter hurdles as he finished fourth overall in 8.32 seconds.
Terrel Johnson (So., Fountain, Colo.) had himself a busy day as the sophomore set a PR in the 60-meter hurdles and shot put while also competing in the high jump. Johnson finished 9th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.90 seconds, 10th in the high jump at 1.85 meters, and 15th in the shot put with a mark of 10.40 meters while teammate
Lucas Moran (Fr.) grabbed 13th in the shot put with a mark of 11.71 meters.
Both squads opened Friday night with great times in the distance-medley relays as the men's relay team was able to record the fifth fastest time in Division II this season finishing in second place with a time of 10:11.39. The men consisted of
Jack Dickson (Fr.), Schmidt,
Nathan Hood (Sr., St. Davids, Grenada), and
Nikolaus Franzmair (Fr.) and now sit 10th in CSU Program history.
Hailey Streff (Sr., Madison, S.D.), Holland, Braybrook, and
Yasmine Hernandez (Gr., Johnstown, Colo.) made up the women's relay team as the squad posted a 12:20.40 and claimed third place in the event.
The ThunderWolves return to action next weekend as the squads travel to Pittsburg, Kansas to compete in the Indoor Gorilla Classic on Friday and Saturday.
