ThunderWolves Blow by Yellow Jackets in 82-59 Win

SPEARFISH, S.D. (Feb. 5, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's basketball team ended a four-game drought by taking down conference leader Black Hills State on the road on Saturday night. The ThunderWolves scored 44 points in the second half and held the Yellow Jackets to their lowest shooting percentage in league play this season on route to an 82-59 win.
 
The Pack started the game on an 11-6 run in the first four and a half minutes of play as Micah Lamberth (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) nailed a three-pointer in the corner. Tristan Hurdle (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) later blocked BHSU Tommy Donovans' lay-up attempt before Lian Ramiro (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) capitalized with a 3-pointer on the other end and gave the Pack a 20-12 lead with just under nine minutes left in the first half. The 3-pointer sparked a 10-2 run for the Pack as the visiting team took a 27-14 lead with 4:19 remaining in the half and the ThunderWolves went in to halftime with a 38-25 advantage.
 
The teams traded baskets to open the second half before De'Shaun Cooper (Fr., Poway, Calif.) finished a 3-point play the old-fashioned way to give the ThunderWolves a 54-38 lead with 14:29 on the clock.
 
The Pack later extended their lead to as much as 18 points before turning the defense up a notch and holding the Yellow Jackets with a field goal for over five minutes. The span included a 12-0 run for the ThunderWolves as Noble Robinson (Fr., Lubbock, Texas) scored seven of his eleven points and Cooper added four points and gave the ThunderWolves 80-55 lead with 2:45 on the clock. Hurdle scored the last two points for the Pack as the visiting team walked out of the Young Center with an 82-59 win.
 
The ThunderWolves finished the night shooting 35 of 69 from the field and 8 of 20 from three-point range while holding the Yellow Jackets to their lowest shooting percentage in league play this season at 40% (22-55). The Pack dominated the paint by out-rebounding the host team 40 to 27, which included 10 offensive rebounds to the Yellow Jackets 3, while out scoring BHSU in the paint 40 to 30.
 
The ThunderWolves had five players finish in double figures as Ramiro led all scorers and nearly snagged a double-double with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists. Cooper added 15 points off 6 of 9 shooting, Lamberth added 14 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals, Isaiah Thompson (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds and Robinson finished with 11 points for the Pack.
 
The ThunderWolves return to action tomorrow afternoon as the team is scheduled to take on Chadron State at 6 p.m. at the Chicoine Center in Chadron, Nebraska.
